Initiate a conversation and see if you can work around the reference. Maybe you can request a get to know session.

I have never used references and had just two things working for me. I was on P411 and that gave me access to some providers. But, if I really wanted to see someone, I would just strike a convo and had only 1 fallout in all the providers I have seen without references. I tried twice with Divine Rachel, it was not going anywhere so closed that pursuit of mine.

I refused to see high mileage sub standard providers just to build references.

The other suggestions here are good as well. EE and velvet can help you get started.

My only recommendation is to first try talking to a provider before you feel forced to see other providers to build references.
