This sort of thing is what has kept me from signing up. Even worse than the bullshit charges, a CC# provides a paper trail right to your door. If I sign up it will be through a much more difficult way to trace. I'm assuming Uncle L. Knows about SA. Whether or not they are interested at the moment doesn't matter to me that much because any business has to keep credit card records for a certain number of years by law. Most keep them longer than that. Those records can be seized and used against you. Also, assume that every message you send on that site is permanently stored. The IP you use to connect is stored. This means if you connect from your home connection or phone they know your name and address if they want to because it's on your account. It's effectively impossible to truly make yourself untraceable online but, in my opinion, I'd like to see you guys try and make it a lot harder for them to find you and / or scam you.

If you are really paranoid. And I was. You can get prepaid VISA gift cards from Home Depot. I paid for mine with a CC (so there's still a possible link) but you can buy it with cash. 7-11 too. THere's a 3% transaction fee tacked on, but that $100 prepaid visa card is for the most part untracable if purchased with cash. In any case, with how behind police departments are in tech, it would take a huge crime for them to justify resources to tracking down that link.

My SA account was signed up without any links to my identify, although I haven't been using a proxy server to access it, which means that technically I can still be traced through IP logs and such. But it's a lot harder. In the case of a bust, there's a bunch of lower hanging fruit for LE to scoop up before my number comes up.

Now, if I were one of Donald Trump's sons, I may want to jump through a few more hoops to conceal my identity.

If you have a Citibank credit card, you can use their "virtual account number" app to generate a number that is only good for a single charge. You can also set a limit for it too. You can either download an app after logging in, or use their website to generate the number. I use this if I ever sign up for anything I'm worried may be a pain to cancel. If the merchant tries to charge a second time, it's denied. I'm not sure if other card companies have a similar feature, but might be worth looking into.

I've had good luck with privacy.com so far. You can generate burner cards and fund it via ACH. The site is free. They make money via a cut of the credit card processing fee on the merchant side.

Just a warning to all of you out there. These sites will rob you blind if you let them. I have found my credit card charged large amounts months after I have cancelled their service (because in general these services suck and most people move on after a month of wasting their money). I tried Seeking Arrangements several months ago and was given a "3-day" trial and after 3 days, I was supposed to be charged $39.95/ month unless I cancel. I figured I would try it out. I went to 3 screens that told me my card would not be charged until after the 3 day trial ended. My card was immediately charged $9. 99. I thought they would refund the money when I cancelled after the trial, so I didn't complain. The next day my card was charged 6 times for $39.95. I contacted customer support and got no response. I then contacted my credit card company and said it was fraud and had my card cancelled and reissued. 3 months later, Seeking Arrangements still has never responded to my dozen e-mails about the charges.

Seriously, I have tried at least one of these hook up sites every year and EVERY ONE of them has tried to charge me more than they stated. Several have waited until six months after I canceled and then started charging me again. This one was the worst and most blatant. Be careful and use a credit (not a debit) card.

I just use a prepaid card. They can't charge me if it doesn't have a balance.
