Went to meet an old provider I used to see on CL. She was up for a meeting at Starbucks. She used to be -- just ok. It is difficult at times to maintain a manageable level of detachment, especially if one is a caring person. And it can be overwhelming. Good on you for listening for 2 hours but it got into your head and you ran away from it. You could have (should have!) consoled her, and gotten something for your investment of time (and emotional capital), by giving her what she obviously wanted.
