Don't connect your number to your Facebook guys. You wouldn't believe how many people do this and with less than reputable providers and scammers, this is not safe.

I've used GV for years, it's worked well and it's free. You can make calls from your real phone that have the caller ID of the GV number transmitted. You just dial the GV number, enter your pin and make the call. You can have the GV calls forwarded to any number and turn it off and on at will. Same with text messages. On my phone, the GV number shows up as an incoming call from one of my legit customer's data center so even if I forget to un-forward it, it looks like a real business call. You can verify with your real phone as well if you're careful since it's one time. You should take her advice, this is right on point.
