Why do you think you are safe when Backpage wasn't? If anything, you are more like Redbook than Backpage. Redbook plead guilty to what must have been a set of lesser charges. Backpage really is just advertising.

Why? Well for starters there are serious jurisdiction issues. Lots of people in the US seem to confuse US law with international law. Because our site is ABOUT things in the US doesn't make it a US business. Our servers are not in the US either. Those guys had their offices in one of the worst places you possibly could for what they were doing.

Think of it like this. It's against the law to publish something that is critical of the government in N Korea. The NY Times does it all the time. Kim Jung Fuckwad would love to throw those guys in jail but Korean law is not international law. The judge that would sign an extradition order on us for working at a place where chicks can post ads about selling pussy hasn't been born yet. We aren't thumbing our noses at the law up there, it simply doesn't apply.

I can't' believe the government is arresting the CEO of an advertising site. Backpage offers a service for people to advertise their services. They don't offer the services like the Star-Advertiser doesn't offer the services advertised in their classified ads section.

It appears that the government believes that the site owner must review and modify and / or reject content to prevent human trafficking of children. Is this government really going to win this case?
