Sometimes, you can opt to pay a cash deposit. Its usually higher than what they would hold on a card, but you can get it back when you're done.

Although the "hold" may not show on the monthly statement, at some banking facilities there is a hold for the value of the room when the account is viewed online. This nearly bit me in the ass a few years ago. I took a "friend" to a hotel. Used a major CC from a nationally known banking facility. Paid for the room using points, the hold transaction was visible online for almost three days. Luckily the SO never saw it.

There are some, but it's usually after they see you there a few times. Not a guarantee.
