One possibility is that he simply fat fingered the number and transposed 2 digits to arrive at your number by accident. For example, he meant to call 617-555-1212 but called 671-555-1212. Just tell him he has the wrong number and to check the ad again. Of course, it doesn't help that many ads are removed in a short space of time, so you can't go back and verify that you have the right number.

I considered that but my number is out of state and not anything close to any MA area code. Also I tried search for each segment of my number and didn't find anything. Like first I tried just the area code, then the middle three digits then the last four. So if even just the last four of my number were the same as a provider and he somehow transposed 617 into 828 for the area code I still should have found it, unless as you say it was deleted shortly. But there are many sites that log all images and numbers on back page and didn't find anything even through google.

I have been testing out an app on mu iPhone (it also works for android).

This week I downloaded an app called "Burner".

Short story is the app temporarily creates a "burner number" so when you dial through the app the caller I'd on the other end sees this created caller I'd number.
