Posts: 807Looking back I guess it was telling how police opened an investigation into 2nd degree robbery and fradulent use of a credit card, then a person who police want to question, not only shows up on his own but is also on the news answering questions media had of him, then no kidnapping no assault charges, nor is he, that I'm aware of, pursuing the establishment that he says he was drugged in.

No common sense either to just look on BP or ask a taxi driver.

This guy got drunk at a strip bar, hit his head on a rock when he fell, then said one of us braddahs robbed him. This story belongs in the strip club report. If he really wanted action he should have gone Empire.

Posts: 1274I find it strange that people still take these reports about "sex trafficking" seriously after so many of them have been debunked.
I'd also like a real study done on sex workers and how many if them do it out of their own free will. I suspect that most women these days don't have a pimp because of the ease of finding their own clients on the Internet. But hey, it's not like anyone does their own thinking anymore.
But then again, what would these anti-prostitution crusaders do with all that time? There's grant money in being a captain save-a-ho, after all.

Posts: 65The second part is starting to sound like internet censorship. They could make a case for random banner ads claiming to protect the underage. But to ban images in all online advertisements may be reaching too far with the whole net neutrality movement.

The truth is that it's easier for the cops to arrest a fellow monger rather than one of those thugs. Most mongers are non violent just enjoy sex. On the other hand, it's tough being a cop in the District of Columbia. They have to make themself look good because they have no respect from the community. Just my two cents.

The cops had no clue how to handle the 2 thieves, who 'ran circles around them' and got away, probably by virtue of their superior street-smarts and physical condition.
We mongers are only trying to satisfy a base need; we don't attack anyone or steal.

Posts: 5127In my opinion, this situation is a prime example of the irrational hysteria over prostitution. From the news reports, it seems that the guy simply wanted to pay someone for private sexual services, a misdemeanor in that city (District of Columbia). There are no allegations about insufficient age, and no allegations of any sort of coercion or violence. The so-called "crime" was manufactured by a police sting operation. With all the murders, robberies, burglaries, aggravated assaults and other serious felony crimes occurring in the District of Columbia, the police have nothing more important to do? This guy isn't a danger to anyone: the police released him the same day and his court appearance isn't until next month. Yet, CBS Sports has suspended him indefinitely, and announced that he won't be working for CBS Sports for at least the remainder of this basketball season. If he had spent the same amount of money on wining and dining some bimbo and then they had consensual sex, it would have been considered a private matter. However, agree to pay that money directly as a business transaction and you're arrested, charged with a crime, publicly shamed nationwide, and suspended from your job, even though the alleged conduct had no connection to your ability to analyze basketball games. From my perspective, it's idiotic.

They don't allow nudity anyway (at least not in Hawaii I see it in other places like Vegas routinely).

Sex industry.
The emphasis is on sex trafficking mostly. If they arrest a girl in an AMP, how will they prove she's there against her will?
The part about advertising on the net specifically bans nude pics. If everyone posted nice clean pics like Empire, then no problem.
Then there's the part about landlords knowingly allowing prostitution on their premises. Key word here is knowingly. The worst that can happen is the AMPs will move into places owned by the mafia.
Anyway, prostitution is already illegal but we get away with it. The worst that can happen is that protection will become more expensive and drive up the price of admission.
The trend lately in writing laws is that they make them so ridiculous that they are difficult to enforce anyway.
I'm not going to worry about it.
Monger on!

Posts: 215Stoner, thanks for bringing this up. I don't read Civil Beat regularly. The last two paragraphs of the article could be game changing. Imagine all the AMPs being closed down, and Backpage not allowed to post photos.

Lawmakers on the task force also hope to push through a bill that cracks down on cybertrafficking by banning nude images in online advertisements. The bill bans the use of nude images in advertisements for high-risk sex trafficking industries such as massage parlors, relaxation parlors and escort services. ".
