Those are just RAID towers that are excess form the iraq war- they can extend up to about 150 feet up an have what the ISR guys call 'constant stare' but although they record, they have to have a person monitoring the action, like a rent a cop watching a bank of videos in a mall. If you cannot see the ball up top, it cannot see you.

Actually these are not the RAID towers, though they may have some similar capabilities. The is made by FLIR Systems which specialized in IR cameras. It only elevates to 40 feet whereas the RAID towers go to 150 feet and are not manned. They can potentially see you in the dark via your heat signature. Supposedly, they can be fitted with different video and long range observation optics. It possible that from the Rand, if the street is clear, they could watch you at the triangle.

Totally agree. Big Deal! So they busted a few petty criminals. Thousands of dollars of equipment to arrest some mostly homeless drug users. Makes you want to laugh if it wasn't so pathetic.

Cute euphemism, makes it sound like the damned thing can fly. All that will do in move the transactions around the corner, out of sight. But then they are druggies and dealers, not generally the smartest bunch on the street. Broad and Mickel? What happened to MLK? They have a PTZ camera on that corner anyway. Sounds redundant for the most part. I can see its use at large venues along the waterfront where they don't have permanent camera installations.

I did see more patrol activity that afternoon with a LEO prowling along B'way. Then again at other times you can cruise for an hour or more and not see one. I'm sure a lot of that also has to do with timing too.

Made a couple passes yesterday afternoon. Started out at the North end and the first thing I come across is some new PD observation tower deployed across from the Rand. Its on a trailer with outriggers and elevates like a scissor jack. It was about 20 feet up so they can have a good view of the entire transportation center area. I don't know if something was going on earlier that they had it out for or if that is a normal thing since the changes. Anyone else seen this thing deployed?

I spent way too much time down there yesterday in the rain. Windows kept fogging up and all the girls were wearing hoodies or carrying umbrellas and you couldn't make out their faces, especially with the rain hitting the side windows. I've been out a few times over the past couple months. On several occasions, I've seen a BSW working the triangle area. She seems to range as far north as Pine and last night I saw her down near Liberty. She always looks very nice, seems to be fit (which is unusual) and as I remember wears black and seems to prefer tights or tight black jeans. Last night she was wearing a brown jacket as well.
