My friend is a little new to the game so hadn't encountered that situation.

Upon walking in he felt the "tone" in the air (ie not really into it)

Could he have maybe changed that by being more into decicive. Probably.

Also could the ladies have tried to be more into it. Probably.

All in all chalk it up to a learning expeirence and move on.
