PHILADELPHIA (CBS). On the same weekend that two men were beaten by violent mobs of teenagers in Center City spurring a police crackdown, another man now says he was randomly attacked on Kelly Drive.

Christopher Dean says he was biking along the drive around 6 pm on Sunday evening, July 31. It was a sunny day and plenty of people were out. He was between Boathouse Row and the Girard Avenue bridge heading west, he says, when he saw a group of four or five teenage boys standing by the side of the path. Suddenly, one of them stepped out toward his bicycle and punched him in the face.

Dean was hit so hard, he says he blacked out. Dean says the teens appeared to be between 15 and 18.

"It felt literally like a blunt force nose of an airplane smacking into me full force. I think it was as hard as he could possibly hit somebody," Dean said."You don't know what's hit you when something like that happens. It takes me three or four seconds probably to realize I've just been punched."

Dean says he managed to pedal another hundred yards before he was helped by two people having a picnic. Pictures show his face bleeding profusely. He needed stitches and his skull was fractured in three places, he says.

"The doctors said that's brass knuckles, the only way your skin can be opened up that way, that's brass knuckles,"he said.

Police confirmed Dean's story and said there have been no arrests.

Dean's incident happened just two days after two other violent attacks by teenagers in Center City. On Friday night, July 29, one man was beaten at Walnut and Juniper, and another man was attacked at 15th and Sansom.

Dean says he is speaking out now because he doesn't believe the city is doing enough to combat the random violence.

On Monday, Mayor Nutter laid out a plan to prevent the so-called flash mobs, mostly by imposing a tougher curfew in Center City and University City on Friday and Saturday nights. The city is also keeping 20 recreation centers open later on those evenings to give kids something to do.

But none of that would have prevented Dean's incident, which occurred early in the evening and outside the new curfew zone.

Dean says he believes the city needs to install more cameras, especially along Kelly Drive. Unless the violence is put in check, Dean says the biggest victim might be the city's reputation.

"If they [tourists and visitors] get wind that this is a dangerous place, this city. Generations of work to make this city what it is. And it is a gem of a city, is ruined," he said.

The papers I liked to are members of the MSM, and they never do. Truth is not politically correct, and therefore the totalitarian progressives tell lies. When they tell anything at all, of course, which is rarely.

You're absolutely correct. I didn't mention this specifically because I didn't think of it: I guess I assumed that everyone knows anyway. First, it's not a new phenomenon on Philly (nor elsewhere) , and second we know that if race isn't mentioned, then it's blacks. Let's not press this issue too much on this forum because this forum is not about race relations and this potentially contentious topic has a possibility to wreak havoc in this otherwise very peaceful and informative place. I hate to self-censor, but there are plenty of forums on the net where this can be discussed w / o mincing words. But again, you're absolutely right, it's blacks. It's always blacks. Nutter's making threatening noises in the umpteenth time, but he does so every year w / o much result it seems (search the net on "Youth mob in Philadelphia" and you'll find multiple reports going back years where every time the city administration proclaims that the mayhem will not be tolerated. Till it happens again a few weeks later). The long and the short of it is, be careful when walking around this rapidly Detroilet'izing city, and do not limit your info sources to this one forum. Forewarned is forearmed, and it's your responsibility to be informed. BTW, I understand that since recently Philly has a fairly permissive concealed-carry policy. Maybe? Something to think about.

That was Jocelyn from Horny Harry's review. The facebook pics are around a year old. She left her home 8 months ago and did not stay in contact with her family, even though they have tried to come down and find her on more that one occasion. She had a brother who was once an addict and new the scene down here and she said she heard from a few people he was looking for her but she was too embarrassed to let anyone see her in her addiction. Another pretty young girl from a good family gone bad with a bad ending. That's two just in the last month. First Kylie now Jocelyn

A woman whose body was found next to a vehicle in Kensington on Tuesday had been shot in the head, police said.

She was identified this morning as Jocelyn Deaver. 21, of Aston, Delaware County.

Her body was found shortly after 4 am Tuesday on the 3200 block of H Street, which angles into nearby Allegheny Avenue.

Investigators have not yet disclosed yet if they have established a motive in the killing or identified any possible suspects.

I had read the article you linked last year when it first came out. I found it to ring very true regarding the girls on Kensington Avenue. I don't know if the program they are talking about is the right one or if it even works but apparently it does for some. The drugs / prostitution cycle is a very hard one to break. Yet we know that it happens because there is a great turnover of the girls on Kensington. All you have to do is look at reports of years past. Most of those girls aren't around anymore. Some probably move and some have sad endings but many eventually get cleaned up and move on. But there always seem to be new faces to replace them. The part of the article I found to be counter to my thinking was the claim that most girls first get into prostitution and then into drugs and not the other way around. Maybe that's because most of the girls I know on Kensington are already druggies and I never met them before they got that way. It sounds logical that it would happen that way and the court system ought to know what is going on in the lives of these girls as a whole better than we do with our brief encounters with them. I have to stop short of thinking I might understand more than I actually do based on a series of 15 minute BJs in my car.

I don't believe it either. Working on K is a sign of serious addiction, a place where girls can trick and then buy drugs minutes later. They'd work at a strip club or for an escort agency if they didn't have such an addiction.

It's counter to my way of thinking too. I'd like to hear it from another source or two before I believe it. I have found that the author of this article often gets emotionally attached to a point of view. The objectivity of her journalism suffers as a result.

I think he's only showing some compassion for the woman, not taking a shot at you

I appreciate your point of view. And maybe there are different ways to see this. BUT. His leadoff words "that's kinda messed up dude" directs the comment and situation right straight at me. It also doesn't sound very "compassionate" to either me or the SW unless they changed the definition of "messed up" when I wasn't looking. Let's even give him the benefit of the doubt that he really meant just to have some compassion for her age and still be hoing on Kensington and really meant to say that the "situation" was messed up. My point still stands. So what? Is there a mandatory retirement age for SWs he would like to enforce? I think it should be like other service job. You work as long as you want to and your services are demanded. That was my point. Why feel sorry for her and not all the other girls sucking dick on the stroll? Nobody was breaking her arm to be there or mine to pick her up. That's what this Forum is all about. She did a great job at a reasonable price. She made some money she was more than happy to earn and I was satisfied. I fail to see the tragedy or the big deal.

While we're on the subject of compassion (in the Streetwalker Reports thread), I just came across this article from Philadelphia Weekly, published a year ago, which begins:

"A New Dawn: Philly Court Uses Compassion to Fight Prostitution

"Today is not the first time Kristen Simmons (not her real name) stands before a judge in Philadelphia's criminal court. In the 26 years she's been working on and off as a prostitute, she has been arrested 16 times and has served four stints in jail...."
