Posts: 139I have been down and looking for these "cameras" I have yet to see any on Broadway. I have seen devices mounted at intersections that look like they might be cameras. These have very narrow slits in them so I think they may be the emergency sensors that turn the lights red when fire rolls.

You can even listen to them on your blackberry or phone if you have a data plan. Granted they are using other forms of comms to communicate. Most what I have heard is someone at dispatch watching the cameras and will call an officer to tell someone holding up a pole to move on.
I will keep looking, but haven't spotted the cameras. They must have them very well concealed.

Thanks Johnboy, this is what we need, a little something to discuss before we go jump to conclusions. I am not saying the cameras shouldn't be a concern. I consider myself to be a very cautious person. How can I take the proper pre-caution without good, accurate information?

If they are monitored from a control room that would mean, someone in the control room would have to see the pick-up and then notify the nearest patrol car. Then, armed with a license plate number the tracking would begin like an episode from a CSI TV show. Using surveillance cameras, patrol cars and helicopters the Camden police can now track down monger and SW to their hidden parking areas. All for a misdemeanor. Maybe I should be afraid?

LOL.

I have not posted in quite a while because I have been out of the game. The cameras may be a scare tactic for mongers, but trust me when I say they are there for the drugs and such things. There is a camera at Bway and Royden which does absolutely no good. Trust me when I say this. There is an open drug set right across the street dealing in plain view. Don't ask me how I know this, just take my word for it because I have inside intel. It sounds to me like the guy got caught making a pickup but I could be wrong. Unless you are stupid and do it in front of them the cameras are not there for s / w pickups. There are far more dangerous things in Camden to worry about. I honestly can't say if they are even monitered.

Sounds to me like you were stop during the pick-up. You weren’t stopped because you were driving up and down Broadway. Do you think surveillance cameras had anything to do with the stop? What were the results of the stop? Thanks for speaking up we need more mongers to provide this type of information.

We should start a anonymous legal fund for mongers who find themselves in this situation.

Unfortuately, I was stopped the other day after cruising up and down Broadway a couple of times and then pulling down a side street to make a pickup.

Why!!! Have you heard of mongers being hassled anymore than usually? Have you noticed anymore stops than usually? Did the Camden police force suddenly grow in size? Do they now have the manpower to do more stops for the sole purpose of harassing mongers? I am asking these questions so that I can make an intelligent decision.

(FYI: There is a somewhat related story in today news. Red light cameras in California are being removed because the tickets cannot be enforced. I am paraphrasing, “In other criminal cases, you have a right to confront your accuser. But with this technology, your accuser is a camera.”)

I do agree, I'm just scared of the hassle. I can tell you, even with the new cameras, I've had about 3 or 4 dates there with no problems. Charmaine was the latest one. Most are early morning before work, around 4am. No problems. I agree that they can do nothing, but the very things you pose are reasons why mongers get scared: we don't know who is watching, or what theyre using it for.

WHY!!! Is it illegal to drive on the streets of Camden more than once? Sure! They can stop you. They don’t need Cameras to do that. If your car and paper work are up to date and you haven’t done anything wrong they have to let you go. Right!

Until I can come up with a good reason to change my current routine, which has work fine so far, I will go about things the way I always have – always vigilant.

I do have a question or two. How are the cameras monitored? Are they being monitored by the squad cars? What is the average response time? Are they actually wasting all of this money to chase a few women and mongers around the block? Are we their main focus?

I am not going to stick my face in a camera, stick my tongue out and go blah. I am not going to go running scare either. So far all I am hearing is that Camden has cameras. Has anyone bothered to check and see what that actually means?

I can maybe field this one. I guess I feel I present less of a target for cameras if I cruise thru once. Having cameras see me going back and forth may prompt them to stop me. My thoughts I guess. Any suggestions?

Since the cameras, to be safe I will only cruise down Broadway once whereas I use to cruise up and down Broadway repeatedly in the past. On my pass down Broadway, I noticed that most of the girls were on Broadway down near Broadway and Kaighn further away from the cameras. I saw Missy (looking very skinny) , Dana and Alisha (wearing fake blue contact lens) but I passed on all of them. Slim pickings so I decided to head into philly.

It will mOve somewhere else if it gets bad. You can't keep the worlds oldest profession down. I used to roam around Admiral Wilson before they tore everything down. Big Brother is everywhere these days. Texts and meet-ups may be the future thing. I cruise broadway one time up and back and if I don't see anything in the first pass I leave. And getting out of there to do your business is a good idea too. I'd hate to wake up to my picture in the courier with a SW going down and a camera zoomed in on my face. BP may make some $ until the new stroll comes around. What do they need cops for when they have cameras? Next they'll be sending drones in for busts.
(maybe this should be in General Reports?)

The Courier Post not only confirms but gives the figure of over 80 cameras already in place with plans to install more throughout the city. Does this mean the end of the Broadway stroll? I know it most likely does for me anyway.
