There are many alternative sites, use what works for you. They just prescribe meds and send it to the pharmacy of your choice. So an independent 3rd party dispenses the meds, they will be top shelf antibiotics same as everyone else gets. And the pharmacists only job is to dispense correct meds of the correct dosage and make sure you know how to use them properly (not mixing with other drugs, alcohol, etc.). My antibiotics were $16. It is often a combo of "Cefixime, Doxycycline monohydrate, Metronidazole" which covers all bacteria. It can work against early stage syphilis but with 2nd stage you'll want a proper test and injection which is stronger (good thing is 2nd stage syphilis is obvious).
If you are looking to take a break from bb or start a new relationship, just saying you have symptoms / discharge matching chlamydia etc. Is enough. You tell them you want to be treated for gono, chlam, trich and they will prescribe the combo. The pill-only combo is also necessary for people who are allergic to the shot, so studies have been done confirming they are 98% effective. Great resource here. I had two cases of NGUs and they are difficult to route out because your other normal tests come out negative. Only way to test is to swab inner urethra and have the doctor analyze the cells. A good regime of Ciproflaxin works since the NGUs hide in the prostate. County std clinic experience, PrEP
This report is for the San Diego County std clinic. Los Angeles has similar clinics so I would hope my example helps you some ideas and makes your visit go more smoothly. The SD clinic is shared with the general health clinic. It is similar to my Planned Parenthood visit minus all the women. This is where I went for my blood tests after getting treated with antibiotics to quit bb, as well as to get my Hep B vaccine. I went to the Central Health Public Center, which is a new location. The Visit
I park at trolley parking across the street. I was greeted by 12 security guards all staring at me to check if I'm a homeless vagrant. To their relief I'm not. They have me step through the metal detector. To the left and up the stairs. The actual clinic serves all people and there are 3 counters. Counter #3 is a bit hidden and that is the checkin / line for STDs. I always try to show up 9 am if they open 9 am. I tell the lady I'm there for std testing, she explains a few things and confirms my info, and I fill out forms. It's $40. If I test positive they will call me, or as a last resort mail me. I've used the county clinic (different location) 19 years. One time I got a letter from "San Diego County Health" reminding me to get my next Hepatitis vaccine shot, which I had started.
Hep B and Gardasil 9 are vaccines you want in this hobby. The latter is genital warts and risk of cancer from the virus.
There are two reasons I go to the county clinics. One is especially at the old location, the ladies there were professional and dealt with std testing all day, knew a lot about it, and focused on giving me good care. HIV risk from PIV is low
My stance is that getting HIV from PIV is really rare and hard, but the risk exists and HIV is tabboo. Anal however is much more risky. In any case, I have a lot of more likely ways to die or be in serious trouble than that, top of the list being a car accident. With bb it is almost a given that you will get bacteria sooner or later, but STD clinics only test for the serious ones. If you are a single guy, it won't matter to you if you are asymptomatic. But once you are thinking of starting a new relationship, you will want to get treated with antibiotics. I've written my story before. All you need to do
Let's talk optimal strategy on stds. The short summary is to take the Gardasil 9 vaccine (for multiple HPV strains), Hep B vaccine, and don't touch an SO if you have one and are going bb. Even if you test negative, because of NGUs which can cause STIs and be a tell (and a conversation). Get treated with antibacterials before taking on a new partner. You can take PrEP if you are going bb, but HIV's risk is low as man going PIV (the risk with anal skyrockets). You will eventually get genital herpes (HSV-2) if you hobby long enough, no avoiding that.
Both the std clinic and my primary care doctor will happily provide both vaccines. Stop caring about their questions. Tell them you have multiple partners, medical privacy is the law. I would worry more about itemized bills coming to your home than what your doctor says in private. If you get std care at urgent care, there is some chance they will by coincidence be in-network with your primary care. Meaning your doctor will see your visit and per their duty, ask you about it. Don't have a heart attack, it's their job.
Under this strategy, getting tested is completely meaningless except for HIV and syphilis, or if you have symptoms and need immediate treatment. Just follow the vaccine and behavior steps, with umbrella antibacterials before a new partner. You can then skip reading the explanation below of how NGUs work, because it explains why other strategies including frequent testing won't work.
Why it's what you need to do and nothing else will work
If you are a free man, the most important is to get treated with antibacterials before taking on a new partner, even if it's been years. It does not matter if you test negative, because tests will never cover NGUs. I've been there and that's exactly what happened to me - 3 years after TJ I infected my next girlfriend with an NGU as I'll explain below.
Trichomoniasis is the most common example of a bacteria that causes of NGU, it's many times more common than chlamydia. But there are many others too without names. The only reason there is even a test for chlamydia is because it is the leading cause of blindness in babies. They are trying to protect babies from blindness, not you from getting caught. Do not get tested for Trichomoniasis, it's still worthless because as mentioned there are a dozen other bacteria without names just like it. There will never be a test for NGU bacteria.
It makes a huge difference if you have a SO. If you do and bb, you must stop activity with them. That's the most important step of all. Anything else does not work, negative tests are meaningless with an SO. Also pay attention if your SO is getting treated for a UTI. It does not mean you gave it to her, but if it was then you will simply re-infect her. That is the ultimate dilemma here - you simply do not know which it is and it will torment you. That is the reason for the strategy I've outlined.
STD tests do not test for everything, just the worst offenders. There is a very long list of bacteria that cause STIs and are passed sexually (I. E. They are STDs). Doctors simply treat them after the fact without ever identifying the bacteria responsible. Sometimes they will do a swab and send it in to find out which antibacterial to use (they culture it and then drop different meds on it to see which kills it). But again, they do not even care what bacteria it is just what to prescribe. In any case, STIs are sus and you will just have to pray it gets swept under again. If you and your partner don't get simultaneously treated it will just bounce back and forth. NGUs are basically "everything else" - it's literally the acronym.
Speaking from personal experience
I was treated for exactly such a thing, the diagnosis was an NGU. In my case, I went bb in TJ (with just one single girl) and 3 years later got a new girlfriend and gave it to her. There is a blood test for genital herpes antibodies, telling you if you have been recently exposed / infected. This is just for your knowledge, there is not much more you can do after other than to know and be mentally prepared.
I do consider deepthroat an unknown risk. Bacterial STDs can live at the back of the throat, but not in the mouth. Gravity means it is a much greater risk for the woman than the man.
Everyone needs to get Gardasil 9, including children as teens. Gential warts. Cancer. I have seen so many SWs with genital warts that can now be prevented. It is a miracle vaccine. Millions of people would be alive today had they taken it, as it will sometimes cause cervical, penile, and anal cancer among others. HPV is responsible for 99% of cervical cancer cases/
Medical groups and sharing medical information
I think testing every month is too often, there is always a better way. No matter the situation. You are correct that if you get tests in the same medical group, your primary care will see it. Even for example some random urgent care that happens to be in the same medical group (whereas an urgent care down the street might not). That said, you should not be concerned if your primary care asks questions.
I don't see the need for a one stop shop. I use edrugstore for pills, callondoc for meds to get treated. Once I stop bb and take on a partner, I get treated as-if positive for bacteria even if I test negative. I believe this is very important. It is a pill combination of Cefixime, Doxycycline monohydrate, Metronidazole (these have alternative names). In-person you can get the shot which is more potent, but the pill is a legit alternative (some people are allergic to the shot and must take the pill). It will make you nauseous for the first day or two, take some yogurt over the next few days to replenish the good bacteria that get killed off.
10 times worse than HIV, 1000 times more common
There is something 10 times worse than HIV, and 1000 times more common. It happens every day. A man gives his wife a bacterial infection after many years of being monogamous. Divorce happens. She takes half, he loses the house, says farewell to his kids, pays alimony and child support, and eats instant ramen alone. No good woman will touch him again. HIV for life is extremely mild compared to that.
It is not the STD that's the problem. I gave an ex-girlfriend an NGU but did not cheat. Had I had a mature conversation with her, we'd have put it aside and continued on. An STD is simply the last straw and a reminder of everything else that's wrong.
If you pass on herpes after many years of being monogamous, it is sus but not by itself a sure thing. It took myself many years of exposure to herpes with kgirls to actually get it. But it is still sus so a proper conversation will be needed. It is important to know that 1 in 6 US adults have genital herpes, and 90% of them don't know it. So not knowing and passing it on years after a relationship happens normally even without cheating. But like I said, the STD is not the problem it is everything else around it.
The other thing worse than HIV is to watch your SO slowly die to cancer, for example untreated cervical cancer, because you or her did not take the Gardasil vaccine. I can think of dozens of things worse than HIV that are a hundred times more likely. Seen them all with my own eyes. So yes let's be careful but I would spend more time putting on a seatbelt. Get your vaccines. Follow the strategy, which covers things 1000 times more likely.
One thing is if you do bb for years, it is good to get blood tested for the remote chance of undetected syphilis. So you can get it treated early. It is not common though, and syphilis will usually let you know anyways. The other thing is if you have serious symptoms, you will need to get even if you are free man. Gonorrhea being the main culprit due to its symptoms. NGUs tend to be very mild - I can actually tell but for most people it is asymptomatic. You have to assume most bb girls have it. Again, an asymptomatic person can certain pass it on to someone else who will have symptoms. Just how it works and that's the final reason for this strategy.
Under this complete strategy, frequent testing and preventative doxy is not necessary or helpful. There is the remote chance of doxy resistance if you do not use it consistently. That's what the combo antibiotics solves.
