The bosses could be feeling charitable and take less of the profit and absorb the cost but that is incredibly unlikely. So the portion the house takes to cover these expenses increase. Consequently, the rate as a whole increases. I would imagine even durable goods (beds, mattress, mirrors, towels, etc.) would be factored in.

    Now these are just observations and musings of a random monger and may or may not accurately reflect what is really is happening. I'm just connecting the dots of what I see of the scene, my buying experiences, and publicly available data points about the current economy. This could be very much be utterly useless and worth jack shit to some but I hope that others can appreciate a better understanding of or at least an approximation of the what may be happening behind the scene. Personally, I find it satisfying when I can piece together a puzzle that makes sense to me even if I'm completely wrong about it. Take of it what you will.
