When there is an oligopoly like the Kgirl business, and there's a growing demand and limited supply for these type of services, they can raise their prices to whatever the market will bear. You stated this yourself in your next post that some dropped their price because of reduced demand.

I'm merely arguing that the kgirl model is just like any other business bowing down to the pressure of inflation. Based on that premise, the rates we're seeing today falls in line with an inflation adjusted price point. Regardless of what you think about the price point, I'm just offering an explanation that's both plausible and reasonable.

Attributing price increases to only supply / demand dynamics oversimplifies and takes a lot of nuance away IMO. By that logic, the few years following FOSTA / SESTA and preceding COVID should have seen a massive surge in price as kgirl numbers dwindled and tapered off. Only when COVID was in full force and inflation started to rise dramatically, did we see increases across all agencies. Don't get me wrong, supply / demand plays a huge part but inflation has a sizeable role too.

I'll make the case that inflation is built into the rates already. CPI, the government's measure of inflation as experienced by consumers, comprises of many market baskets. Three of which is directly applicable our situation: Shelter, Housing Supplies, and Transportation (specifically the Motor Fuel subset). I'm not sure if you've ever had the unfortunate and very awkward experience of being at an incall when they are restocking. For one thing, it's unexpected. Secondly, it's jarring how the ajummas are rather nonchalant about the whole thing. I was pretty much ignored while they were hauling up and unloading Kirkland body wash, water bottles, boxes of Okamotos, and other toiletries from a mini-van. I share this as it relates to the Housing Supplies market basket portion of the CPI. All three baskets have been hit hard during COVID. So when property management comes back when your incall lease ends with a take or leave it 10% or more increase in rent, all manner of housing supplies cost more, and fuel prices are at an all time high, the increase in overhead has to go somewhere. The bosses could be feeling charitable and take less of the profit and absorb the cost but that is incredibly unlikely. So the portion the house takes to cover these expenses increase. Consequently, the rate as a whole increases. I would imagine even durable goods (beds, mattress, mirrors, towels, etc.) would be factored in.

Now these are just observations and musings of a random monger and may or may not accurately reflect what is really is happening. I'm just connecting the dots of what I see of the scene, my buying experiences, and publicly available data points about the current economy. This could be very much be utterly useless and worth jack shit to some but I hope that others can appreciate a better understanding of or at least an approximation of the what may be happening behind the scene. Personally, I find it satisfying when I can piece together a puzzle that makes sense to me even if I'm completely wrong about it. Take of it what you will.

Bay Area guys always were tough on price increases. $200 was the norm for very long time there. Several attempts to $250 were unsuccessful as guys were not kind to ones who tried to increase prices. I'll start out by saying I don't like price increases either. And some of the changes in recent years are hard to stomach.

But I also realize it's not a one-sided affair and tried to look at it holistically. The overhead that comes with the operation of a kgirl business and the logistics cost associated with bringing the girls here all affect a portion of the final price charged to mongers. Therefore, regardless of the legality of it all, it is in fact a bona fide business. Of which, business fundamentals can be applied to. More importantly, the forces that affect such fundamentals can help determine how appropriate and fair the hikes in price has been. As a baseline, I have set $250 (the average hour price between LA and OC) as the baseline cost for 2012. Using any CPI-benchmarked inflation calculator, it'll spit out a range between $300-320 in buying power as of 2022.

I just see the rapid increase in recent years as more of a market correction to keep abreast of historic inflation levels. Ideally, commensurate COL adjustments at work should be helping to absorb inflation here and everywhere else. But you know how that goes. I won't go into whether BB should be included in the base price or as an upcharge as it's too contentious a topic and doesn't apply to the point I'm making here.

Is it just me or does LA attract a lot of "free agent" types? Girls that come here and have no desire to make it work with any one org, or multiple orgs since this is a MBPG market.
