Age old rule and very reasonable expectation in a community. Add something of value, don't be a mooch.

I've had similar conversations many times. Not sure if it’s lack of confidence to take a risk, or general entitlement but it is frustrating.

I spent a fair amount of time with Chelsea a few years back and, yes, when she was good she was VERY good! I just accepted her habit of being perpetually late and all was good. .
