I understand your logic here but the chances of that happening are extremely low in comparison to the chances of your significant other finding a second phone, which will most definitely happen sooner than later.

I am a bit of a worrywart and I'm really not worried about anyone finding it so for me a burn phone is the best choice. But I do see your point about a significant other finding a second phone.

This is the same reason that we get ads on the web for products that don't interest us, but do interest friends and family because our phones were nearby. Our phones travel and leave bead crumbs, even those burner phones. No, our phones do not listen to us, they don't need to; they use all of our apps, actions, and searches that we already provide them. Maybe some mongers are current / former spooks (spies) or IT security specialists, criminals who really know the ropes, most mongers can't cover their tracks that well.

I agree that nobody should be using their own phone number, it's just an unnecessary risk. But also you can download apps these days to your phone that will let you text from a different phone number for free. I have two on mine so I can essentially text from 3 different numbers on my iphone depending which one I use. I've had the other two apps / numbers for years and never paid a penny for either.

Where is the best and cheapest place to pick up a burner phone? Had been going to get one, but since Covid came around, I have backed off a lot of my activities and have been sticking to my regulars and haven't been too concerned about privacy. Now, I'm thinking about looking around at some new talent and think it would be a good idea to get an anonymous phone.

Don't go cheap, get a nice Tracfone (Smartphone) get a good one for 40 to 80 dollars (pay cash), you can buy them anywhere. Get the 90 day prepaid card for 20, that's less then 7 dollars a month. DON'T use any personal info (this includes email) at any time. Also use a text app until you know the chick is real and not nuts, then you can give her the burn number. Remember if you use a text app on a contract phone it can be traced back to you.
