You need to build some references to get in to most places but being nice (not naive) and honest is best (IMHO). Contact less resistant bookers like K T E, Los Angeles Asian. Com. Some bookers are a little hungry right now. Be upfront and let them know you don't have references and ask is there another way to verify. You can always suggest work email as a way to verify; it has worked for me when the booker did not receive any verification from my references.
