Posts: 100Projo Features NMS. Prov. Spas Closed or Closing
http://www.providencejournal.com/art...NEWS/150229286
It appears that all of the spas in Providence are closed (or closing).
I would steer clear of the spas in surrounding areas as well (personal opinion), while the spotlight is on.
Regards,
Ishmael.

Read the front page of the ProJo. Bye Bye Larry and even the mammasan of the year, Mika, has headed for the hills, or Flushing, whichever is closer.
The AMPs are in "regroup" mode right now. It remains to be seen where and how they will reappear. And they will cause there is WAY too much money left by their departure on the table.
Can I start a competition? HOW will they reappear? Aroma therapy lounges? Hot stone treatments? Hooka lounge with scantily clad Asian companion? Asian lonely hearts clubs?. Or my personal favorite, Asian Steam baths, with relaxation rooms.

Posts: 1701There was never a question about the nationality of 1021's staff as far as I was concerned. Most of the Providence AMP girls are Korean, I don't know of any that were Chinese. My point was when you said most AMP girls are Korean, I didn't realize you were talking about Providence only. It's been my experience that most AMP girls (other than Rhode Island) are Chinese. Sorry for the confusion.

Posts: 431Thank you for clarifying that we agree about the nationality of 1021 staff.

The issue of them having difficulty getting back to where they were before they came to Providence isn't the issue you keep saying it is. They were in NY before they came to Prov not China or Korea. I know I repeat myself but you keep acting like their country of origin has something to do whether they are trapped in a job they don't want to do. It doesn't. If they came to the US in servitude as you suggested and continuye to suggest then whoever recruited them in China or Korea had a job lined up for them or they wouldn't have paid for their travel expenses to get to the US. And if that were the case then they would have been working and they wouldn't have been free to take Mika's offer of employment when she offered it and they wouldn't have been free to quit that jkob when they discovered they didn't want to do the job. That they were free to take a job offered to them in a CVS parking lot and quit that job a few days later is pretty clear evidencw that they weren't being forced to do the job.
To repeat one more time: trafficking is bad. Nno one should support businesses that are involved in trafficking. People who engage in trafficking should be prosecuted. It apparently doesn't matter anymore since everything is closed, but Mika and 1021 weren't involved in trafficking.

I was at Harmony Wednesday, and everything was operating normally. The staff were new, but it's been months since my last visit. I think its worth a drive-by. Their phone and doorbell were ringing constantly while I was there.

Posts: 1701Yes, I've been seeing it since around the beginning of Jan. Looks like they are all leaving due to the recent new ordinance. Either that or hopefully (but not optimistically) they are being trained & licensed for bodywork, as stated in the ordinance.

Posts: 1701Nice report, very well done. I wouldn't count on this spa (I won't name it either, out of respect for your wishes) on staying open for long. If Providence is closing down all their spas, neighboring towns won't be far behind. Enjoy them while you can.

Refresh has been toast for weeks. All you are going to do is burn a hole in the ozone layer going around to these spas because they are all closed with the exception of two that are outside of providence. Harmony is not one of the ones open however. I called Harmony tonight and a person answered and then hung up. I could hear bus station noise in the background. That says it all.

Posts: 39Mark Twain Lives On, Go East
So, this week I wanted to confirm something for myself and sure enough I did not let my self down. I stopped by the alphabet spa on Smithfield and, yup, locked tight. It appeared that many a monger had tread to the locked door before me, because there were a lot of footprints in the snow going only to the door and back and circling back to the little parking area.
Undeterred, I continued north on 95 to the line. The east street place lot was full. I have been there many times and never seen it full. I guess to it goes to show that Newton was right, for every action (like most of the Prov places being closed and parking lots being empty), there is an equal an opposite reaction (like the east st place getting very busy). I saw the weird white van in front on the street in front of the building next door, and was glad I have observed it before. If not, I would have worried about surveillance and driven on.
Thought when I reached the door that it still might be locked, and was pleasantly surprised that the door opened and the doorbell worked. Greeted at door by the standard mamasan who has been there the last couple of years. I visited this place within the last month and was really pissed at the girl who took care of me and for the first time left the girl a terrible tip, told her why, and we were both had a very vocal exchange on my way out. I never wrote a negative review about this on this board because I did not want my first review to be have negative vibes.
Mamasan took me to the room. I stripped, as I had a short wait for a girl to show up and having to wait a couple minutes was okay with me. Having to wait got even more ok with me, when I saw what walked through the door. A beautiful young cutie. (I am not going to state her name in this review, not because I will not share it with anyone or want to hide it, but more because of what is going on in RI right now, and, I don't want to make the target to easy for ellee.) Good massage that was not rushed. Girl speaks excellent English so enjoyable to talk and joke. Great hands, great feet, great body I thought, committed to making you at ease and feel good. Sweet, seductive, more like a higher end GFE escort. I was really afraid I was going to get let down about me perceiving that she had an almost flawless body. But when the bikini bottoms and top came off, it just got better and better. Full time, not shorted. Standard. 6 fee, agreed on a standard tip, but I dropped a bit extra. We clicked, maybe I hit her on a good day. I cannot imagine how she can provide service at this level to every customer every time.
Glad I did not write off this place after the previous visit with a really terrible experience. Because, during this visit a good time was had by all. From the greet, through the best-est tableshower ever, to the actual massage, and on through the no-holds-barred service, this was a top-5 spa experience in years. The only other experience for me that was this exceptional level was a couple of year ago at an acupuncture spa in Mass, in Watertown. That place had a young, beautiful, articulate cutey named Jennifer (preferred to be called by the prim and proper full name, not Jenny). That Jennifer was unique and special. This girl on east street this week has potential to be elevated to unique and special. Of course, next visit, the way things go with the girls, I could just get ho-hum service.
In regards to a poster on the Boston or Worcester board believing that (paraphrasing) that the rhode island scene is dead, I suggest recalling the old Mark Twain comment in his cable from London to the US press: "the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated" (I even placed it in quotes for A2 so I do not get in trouble for plagiarizing like Smoke. Of course A2 may preview / screen why report and deem my report as not being publish-worthy and you will never see this post). (Parts of) RI is alive and doing well.

Posts: 1701First off, 1021 is staffed by Koreans, not Chinese. I was talking in general, and used China as an example.

They answered ads in their home country, some know what they will be doing for work here, but most don't know for sure. Most are illegal and are smuggled in, at a cost of 30,000 and up. The money they earn goes towards their debt. While they are here working they have very little money for themselves, they are charged room & board, the rest goes toward their debt. Most don't even know exactly how much their balance is, they have to rely on the people that got them here. And surely you don't think these people are going to tell them when the debt is paid off, do you?

Posts: 1701I Thought It Was Understood
We were talking about AMPs, not restaurants & nail salons. So I'll rephrase what I said so you'll understand, maybe. When I said how many Koreans do you think work in Chinatown, I took it for granted you would remember we were talking about AMPs. So, think back. How many Koreans do you think work in AMPs in Chinatown? I've been to 14 in Chinatown and so far they have all been Chinese, and there more AMPs there that I haven't been to, but I am willing to bet that most, if not all are Chinese.
