However, no one mentions here in the forum what actually happens if you are arrested by a Vice officer. Are you ROR'd? If not, are you arrested and sent to the county jail? How much is the bond? I know they have threatened us on BP with our pictures being sent to the news station, do they do this everytime?

I'd say Brooklyn is an ebola hot spot right now. I would try to avoid Fairhaven if possible.

I am new to this state and are not familiar with the laws.

I agree remaining silent is the best thing to do. If they persist tell them you are exercising your right to remain silent. Always remember that they are questioning you to get evidence to make arrest and strong case for a conviction in court.

An acquaintance is LE with many years experience. He once told me that no one has ever talked him out of a ticket or arrest. He also said that his comrades hassle the the holy hell out of people who refuse to talk to them when they ask questions. The basic thing is that if they are going to arrest you, there's nothing you can do and talking will only make things worse. That may not be the most calming advice for a street encounter with LE but remember that they do this a lot of times in a day and you do this only a few times, if you are unlucky, in your life.

They will take whatever you say and twist it to their advantage.

It will piss cops off but the best thing is to do is politely ask "Did I commit a violation?" "Am I getting a ticket?" "Am I free to go?

Don't confront or challenge cops as they know what they are doing but be polite and respectful and don't say anything that will be used against you.

I saw a cop lie through his teeth in court once. He just gambled that the judge would believe him even though his lies directly contradicted his own police report. In the end had the defendant talked at the scene, things could have been much worse. Since the cops had no evidence, the arrest and night in the pokey was the big punishment and at trial it all went away with a good lawyer.

The biggest chance is that you won't talk your way out of anything at the scene. It may be a huge hassle but shutting up, getting a lawyer and letting the lawyer challenge everything at trial is the best way to keep your record clean. Cops are not kindergarten teachers. They do forgive you for telling the truth. If they are asking you stuff, they either don't know it or are trying to get you to say something incriminating.

It might be a good idea to record the situation when the cops stop. Inform them you are recording the conversation. If they object tell them you have the legal right to do so.

All this talk about the Po-Po. I've been a Balto person all my life. The police here say what they want, do what they want, and get away with it. I was talking to a county sheriff the other day and he said "Balto City cops are the closest thing to a real criminals you'll ever see with a badge".
