Many independent providers don't want to take the time to screen someone who doesn't have perfect references. Especially since they're typically having to also book their own appointments, check references, and somehow make time to actually see clients. An agency has an advantage in that one person isn't having to do everything. My partner, Jack, is a whiz with computers. He'll take the time to actually screen your references to make sure they're legit providers even if they don't have any reviews on that other site. It can be a time consuming process, and I can understand why an independent wouldn't want to take the time to do it.

I doubt that. Many of us will never give out our personal information; anyone who does is engaging in extremely high risk behavior on the level of BBFS. Especially with the new human trafficking laws enacted in Massachusetts. If all providers were to require verifiable personal information, I don't think there would be enough business left to go around and the requirement would be dropped again.

I do understand the mutual goals of protecting both client and provider, and though I would not give out my personal information, I'd be willing to otherwise go a long way with an agency like yours (judging both by your professionalism and from the hot pictures of you and your girls!) for such mutual protection. We need to come up with some better methods. As you explain quite well, if it's too easy for Uncle Leo, it's worthless as a form of protection. As you also correctly point out, we also take a risk when contacting new providers, though of course with a well reviewed agency like yours, the risk is extremely low and almost all on your side. I do understand and appreciate that. If you didn't protect yourself, you wouldn't be in business very long.

I think the references by reviewed providers are an example of a reasonable compromise. As you imply, not easy for Uncle Leo to fake these kinds of references. Perhaps if we think about it enough we can come up with other systems that work well. We all know the basics of how Uncle Leo works most of the time.

If reputable providers / agencies won't see anyone without references from other reputable providers / agencies, then how can you get any acceptable references? The only alternative I can see is to provide sufficient personal information to be properly screened. Even that has it's risks, since while it may provide reasonable assurance that you aren't really Uncle Leo, it doesn't prove that you aren't a psychotic serial killer. Which is where an agency is safer for providers since it insures that someone else will know where they are, and who they're with. Keep in mind that if you get caught, it's a misdemeanor charge, that will most likely be dismissed upon payment of court fees (assuming first offense). If I (or any other agency, or even an independent's driver) gets caught, it's a felony with a minimum mandatory two year sentence. Both may obviously face other consequences because of an arrest. We turn down on average at least two to three times as many appointments per day as we actually accept. I would much rather lose money, than risk losing my freedom (or that of my girl's. I wouldn't send anyone else to an appointment I wouldn't do myself).

Obviously, if someone can come up with a better way of screening that would not increase my risks, I'm more than happy to consider it. But even if you say nothing illegal over the phone, in your ads, or through email, once Uncle Leo is standing in front of you, he will arrest you. They'll let the court figure out if there is sufficient evidence for the charge. Once they make an arrest, they can make what's known as a "search incident to an arrest" (which does not require a warrant). Any condoms, cell phones, money, or computers, will be seized as evidence, and used against you in court. They'd rather make the arrest and hope they gather enough evidence to convict since most providers will attempt to plead out. Conviction or not, Uncle Leo gets credit for the arrest, which can then be used to justify a budget increase. So the only sure way to avoid this, is to never make an appointment with Uncle Leo at all. Thus the reason for adequate screening.

I can certainly understand your concerns about revealing personal information, it's obviously a big risk (especially considering the unstable mental state of some providers). Not to be rude, but honestly my safety and freedom mean more to me than your concerns (or money). Personally, I feel that third party screening services (ie Date-Check and Preferred411) are a reasonable compromise. They do require extensive personal information, but providers do not have access to it directly. I'm pretty sure just about every provider / agency accepts Date-Check and Preferred411. They certainly make things much easier, and quicker, for both parties involved.

The problem is that people (ie Uncle Leo) are trying to fake their way through provider screening now. Uncle Leo will call up to make an appointment with Provider Annie. Provider Annie asks Uncle Leo for references, he gives her names and numbers. But these names and numbers are really Auntie Leo, who just happens to also have ads posted to catch poor innocent mongers. Auntie Leo of course wouldn't have any reviews though, so that is the flaw in their plan. They've also been known to use names and numbers of providers they've recently arrested for a reference as well, and then have Auntie Leo answer if you call. Which is why multiple references are required by most providers. It's also the reason why some providers don't take same day appointments from new clients.

So as with the changing times, this hobby is changing, I have always just called a provider and made an appt, no questions asked for the most part.

But the powers that be have been out like sharks this past year and this is the 2nd girl (meaning CC) That will not see me because I'm not a another site member.

I have called up 5 providers I have seen in the past and asked if they will vouch for me, and they all said they would.
