Well said. I've told Mei that when we get married we would sell the business and travel the world. Now, I'm a part time electrician, plumber, accountant, salesman, lawyer, webmaster, cleaning guy, etc.Been there done that! Now I am trying to get out to las vegas buy a little place, monger on occasion and watch the tourist spend money! Also being a landlord in a high end downtown area like I have been for the last 2 years (owned for 10) sucks! I don't own a place in the west loop it owns me! Stress? Yep they are called tenants! The more they pay the more they want! Down there one is not a landlord in as much as a concierge! That place is the next to be kicked to the curb! Let's see. Business gone? Check condo gone? How much did you spend with Cici for house fee and tip? I've been seeing Kendy at their other location off Chicago Ave in Oak Park. Really nice Asian will the perfect rack. Usually adds a prostate touch to the finish. I got her number and visited her home as well. Trying for more than just a stand finish but nothing yet. Might go back to her place again to seal the deal. Last time she double booked me and I went anyway so she can take care of me in the bathroom. Just gave her. 25 so it was a steal. I PM'd a long answer. But will sort of repeat it here. First, it is entirely up to you. Many customers have limited income, and should never feel they are obligated to pay any certain amount. For an hour, probably $20 - $30 is most typical. (give or take $10). A customer that comes every other week and tips $10 is a very valued customer and much better than someone who tips $40 but only comes once every six months. In my case, I used to add to the tip when somebody would go over the stated massage time. So ten minutes over is probably worth $5-$10 added to the tip. A 90 minute massage is proportionately higher.
What does Mei consider a fair appreciation for her services? (Ballpark).

So that's the biggest fork in the road for us. I really do want to marry her. We decided to make the decision in the next year or two. L calls me "Husband" and I call her "Wife". Dreamed about Relax (south location) and saw Jessie, who also greeted me at the door. Older woman, I am terrible with ages but I will guess around 40. I loved her curves, face shows some age and is nothing special. Paid. 65 for the house and another. 6 for HE. I know it was too much but I was a little nervous with it being my first time.

I was in Kankakee area for a job and stopped by Sunny Massage off of Rt 50 in Bourbonnais. Older Massage ladies. I had Sophee or Sophia couldn't understand totally. Paid the $70 for an hour actually gave $80 and Sophee said she forgot the $10 change which made me a little mad but didn't say anything to her. Massage lasted a total of 40 minutes. No teasing during the massage and the massage was not good. On the flip, got a HJ and tipped $40. She let me roam and lifted up her bra and sucked on her tits. I won't go back as I felt ripped off. I've been away from AMPs for a while but thinking about getting back after trying a few other things (mostly BP and TER indie recs, including a few other parlors like LTs). To give you an idea, first experience was an amazing visit at Senina. Boy that place was fantastic, sorry to see it's gone!
So, here's what I used to do, with varying results but mostly at least partial success:
Walk in and pay mama.
Get to the room and take it all off before the girl returns so as not to leave any LEO questions (at least in my head).
TS, return, take off towel and lie down.
Enjoy the tease, light roam, ask if that's ok, yada yada yada.
Negotiate on the flip.
I trust that's still how we do things around here?
Wonder how pricing's changed, too, but one thing at a time. First post, plus you trailblazers have left plenty of good info to read. Thank you all for that.

This one has been advertising on Craigslist lately. Another user scoped out it, but passed. I went at lunch time, called the papason and told him I was on the way. The place is in a mini alley. I walk in and look up to see a 45-55 year old woman telling me which stairs to take. The place is not really a spa but an office space with some fake walls put up. The MT, Coco, is probably 4'11,95# and has some years on her but good looking for her age. The walls to the massage "room" don't go all the way to the top and no lock on the door. I got naked and received an OK massage. No action on the flip. I got the impression that maybe on repeat the maybe more but I won't be going back. Incomplete walls and no locks is just a bad situation even if extras were readily available. Look elsewhere.

They use playing cards like we would use poker chips. They keep them in tilt out drawers in the side of the table. In the beginning each player gets a full suite of cards worth a value of 1000, take the value of each card x 10. Generally $1 a point value.

So a MT gave me her personal number. I am assuming that it is so that I can make appointments directly with her and she knows I'm "cool". So far with her I've had just been HE which is fine. A lot will depend on the ethnicity of the Spa, the type of Spa and how open the menu is. The first AMPs I went to were Chinese. There were two or three girls that seemed to be there a very long time. Over a year. A couple others seemed to come and go. Menu was limited to L1 and L2. Then I went to a couple of Korean SPAs. Girls rotate every two to three weeks. Everything on the menu. Asian Apartments girls usually around for a couple of months at a time.
I always strike up a conversation, even if there English is limited. Find out where they are from, how many years in the states, ask about family. It is an easy way to find out if they are living in the area or just visiting. So far I would say it is about 50/50. I meet many girls who are just visiting for a while to makes some money and will move on. I am sure the girls that offer full menu understand that we as mongers like someone new every so often.

Which was 10 poses, each pose about 30 seconds. A routine called Yoga for diabetics. Tree pose. Warrior pose. Boat pose. Plank. Downward dog, child pose. Couple others I can't remember, I threw in some push ups and leg lifts and spread leg lifts. All this stuff strengthened the core. Then at 5:30 pm I spent about 40 minutes at the gym. That would include 15 minutes on the eliptical machine. Interval training (about 60 seconds sprint, heart rate to 160 or until I saw flashes of light in my head / 60 seconds slow) repeating the fast slow cycle maybe 5 times. Then I did a circuit on the weight machine, 10 reps on each of ten machines at the heaviest weight I could manage. I got up to 300 pounds on the leg press. Finish with a ten minute steam bath.
Now, unfortunately, (or fortunately) I'm spending all that quality time with L. So I probably only exercise 30 minutes a day. No longer go to the gym. Gained about 10 pounds in the last 12 months. I'm still relatively active, and L cooks super healthy Chinese food. I'm trying to replace the gym workout with room calisthenics.

I'm 6' 6" in my 40's and overweight. I don't fit on some tables and portable folding table showers are always risky for me. I always feel like they're going to collapse.
That said I shower before I goto places that have no shower or a crappy one (Belmont) and I always get a table shower when available so MT knows I'm clean.
I also understand it's a business transaction and I tip more than a younger thinner man because of my size for a good session. More work deserves more pay in my opinion.
I have yet to have any issues and the MTs usually remember me and seem appreciative of the extra cash.

So previously I wrote a review on Gina at a massage parlor off Montrose period she is amazing and she still is. I also saw Melissa from the same place and she is equally has great. Today I had The Misfortune to see one of their new latina girls, Letty. I come in and I'm a bit disappointed at how she looks. She has a fairly chubby figure and chubby face. I'm new to the scene, but saw some reviews and thought I would try this place out. I didn't catch her name, but petite, somewhat attractive, and teeth could use some work. I had to ring the doorbell a couple times before she answered. Turns out she was alone and with a client. There was a bit of a language barrier, but she asked me to wait 10 minutes. No problem. Got to the TS right away, but on the flip she had me sit up, squirted soap on my junk and hands and (I think) told me to wash myself. Bummer. Afterwards she dried me off and took me to another room for the massage. Really nothing special. Not even half way through the doorbell rang, and she had to let in another customer. After that things felt rushed. There was no offer or hint of anything extra at the end, and I wasn't sure how to ask because she said she had to go to the other customer. I'm not sure what if anything I did wrong. Maybe I need to go back to build up her trust? I'm kind of a newbie, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I went in to see Gina last week. They have a small parlor that is completely private. No signs outside the place and without the address, you would never find it. But inside is a decently nice typical massage parlor.

I was greeted by three MT. A petite woman, possibly the youngest, was hunched over her phone sitting behind the desk. She never lifted her head or made eye contact with me. At the desk was the thirtyish fairly attractive lady of medium build. She verified my phone number and name for a ledger. I am presuming that this is to screen repeat business. There was a report from princess Thai about more nefarious reasons for this activity yet. I found out later that these two women were Claire who is reported as erotic but pricey, and Tina who is described as overpriced and less talented. **please chime in as to which one is Tina and Claire*.
The third woman, Grace, gave the Massage. She has a larger frame, plain face with antibiotic (stained teeth. She has not been reviewed IIRC. She was pleasant and friendly. Her Swedish / transition / Tease skills were quite good. The Finish was above average. The back walk was ungraceful and clunky. The only thing going for it was that she used her body weight to generate force. The first part of the deep tissue was clumsy as well, similar to my recently reported pricey experience with Jeanne at World. Door was 75 but don't remember getting change. (She also forgot my water so she may just be ditzy.) I tipped 60 for effort and no haggling. My exit was business like without any of the "come back soon honey" I am used to.
I think I got the "getting to know you" experience given some of the physicality during the Massage.
I would not repeat for grace but would like to hear more about Claire and how to recognize her.

Maybe try to find one that will take you and become a regular. Tell them up front over the phone that you're AA and see if they'll take you so you don't waste your time. 50+ shouldn't be a problem. The Asian apartments in chinatown seem to take the house fee and no need to worry about extra tipping. The regular AMPs just seem to run your standard operating procedure house-fee+tip, and YMMV.
While it is by no means 100%, many Chinese women are afraid of African American men. My "Chinese wife", "L" is not that way, but I know others, who though seemingly enlightened, still demonstrate prejudice. Not dislike, really, but fear. I spent a lot of time trying to "teach" people to respect others and to judge them on their behavior rather than the color of their skin. Maybe growing up in a homogeneous ethnic group means they did not get to know other cultures. Anyway, your best advice will come from other African American members. To the extent your therapist has any lingering fear, try put them at ease. Come early. Go to places where there are multiple workers (vs one girl alone). Dress nicely. Be friendly and relaxed. Hopefully they will also relax. Get a 60 minute massage to give you both time to relax and get to know each other. Standard tip pricing is $20 for a good 60 minute massage w / o HE, $40 for He / $60 for Oral / and $100 for FS. Oral is not particularly common in Chinese places, and as a practical matter even FS is more likely for regular customers vs first timers. Good for you going back to get a refund. I think the glory days of Pine Tree have come and gone. My last few visits there were lack luster and am in no hurry to go back.
I used to be a frequent visitor but haven't been there since the bust until last week. Things were looking pretty good. I drew "Lucky" she was OK, but not exactly attractive- call her plain (with a lot of makeup) Got a decent Table shower, went to room for massage and pretty much everything fell apart. Sparing the unnecessary details, she was quick to want to get to the tipping.
She asked for $ for a HE and $. 4 for FS and that's on top of the door fee. So for $$. 20 I get an crappy massage and FS with a plain girl. Much better deals elsewhere. I declined the service and asked for only massage. I got in my car and drove off. I look at the clock and realize I was in there less than 30 minutes. I turned around and went in to ask for a refund. After a lot of bitching they gave me back 1/2 the door fee. I made it clear that I wouldn't come back.

Tried this place and you know when you fill your car up and hope for really good service with premium gas. Well I ended up filling it up my self and it was regular gas at best. Instead of regular gas being octane 87, this was mid sixties at best. Cute gal, young but completely self service. The price was of course like premium.

Great lineup here. Walked in, 2 beautiful girls sitting down and 1 older provider working the counter who I assumed was the mamasan. Paid for 30 minutes, went back, and then in walked in old gal! I wasn't happy with this.
I asked her if either of the other 2 girls were busy and I had one of them last time I came and she was great and I wanted to repeat (figured it was an easy way to let her off the hook).
But then she lied to me, told me the other 2 girls were "busy. " Bullshit, I saw them playing with their iPad 2 seconds ago liar. So I told her that's fine, go get my money back and I'll go somewhere else. She said "OK" and huffed out. Then I got dressed, and in walks one of the two girls. Then I had to undress again.
All went perfectly after that though. Girl's name was Saki. Not the best face in the world, but beautiful petite body. Paid $. For naked old fashioned. I know some of you will balk at that, but I'm paying for the girl not the service. Sure I could have gotten Suzy Oldhands for less, but I don't mind paying a little extra for a beautiful woman.

This will not only reduce her fatigue, but also weed out the chaff that are just using her up. If she's that busy, then a standard supply / demand equation is the solution. If a 2nd girl isn't as good, charge normal rates for her and premium rates for Mei. This gives incentive for cheapskates to give the 2nd girl business and incentive for the 2nd girl to improve enough to charge the premium rate. I've been to hair salons where the owner charged more, because he was simply that much better.

30 minutes $29.95 30 minutes shouldn't be offered. Legit needs some time. All 30 minutes will do is get you off at a discount.
The $0. 95 pricing might fool 'them at the discount stores, but people looking for a legit massage know they are NOT going to get $0. 05 in change.

Today, nobody has come in at all (yet). Maybe I should have "rush hour pricing" or a $60 "walk in" vs a $50 "appointment rate". Appointments help us manage the business and the staffing, plus I can add clients to the contact database. I also want to continue to give a good price to our loyal customers. A final observation is that most of our regulars give Mei a good tip, thus equalizing the apparent low price. I agree 30 minutes is too short for a real massage. Actually, Mei's idea of 30 minutes is 40 minutes. 60 minutes is 70 minutes. And 90 minutes is 100 minutes. I keep telling her to stick to the actual time and she will help herself. I'm not worried about $49.95 and of course everybody understands. Exxon does it also. LOL.
We have a man who is excellent and helps the female clients and a woman who is also excellent but has limited time. Hence the need for a new worker who can fill in for Mei. She needs rest and also a day off each week.

Had a lovely deep tissue Massage on the north side by a hard working MT who worked up a sweat by the end. While working on my back she paused, took a cleansing breath, and told me that I smell wonderfully. (I showered the night before and use deodorant appropriately.) she made a disgusted sound and told me of her other client. On my way out I saw a monger in the foyer hunched over in his parka. It was 30' outside and sunny. He looked like a homeless Jerry Garcia.
As mentioned by others it doesn't take much for us to be presentable. Clean, Polite, pay. We expect much. We should be deserving.

1) I would not price discriminate between people who make appt vs walk ins. Once people know that, no one is going to do walk in. While it might help with appt scheduling, it does not solve your underlying issue of Mei getting burned out.
2) Maybe stop advertising for a couple of weeks as it sounds like you have enough business for now anyway.

I don't have solution for you Bob since you already know that the solution is to get more capable LMTs. Just a couple of comments.
1) I would not price discriminate between people who make appt vs walk ins. Once people know that, no one is going to do walk in. While it might help with appt scheduling, it does not solve your underlying issue of Mei getting burned out.
2) Maybe stop advertising for a couple of weeks as it sounds like you have enough business for now anyway.

Had a lovely deep tissue Massage on the north side by a hard working MT who worked up a sweat by the end. While working on my back she paused, took a cleansing breath, and told me that I smell wonderfully. I don't know a legit MT, but your pricing doesn't look right.
90 minutes $79.95 $10.00 too low.
60 minutes $49.95 $10.00 too low.
30 minutes $29.95 30 minutes shouldn't be offered. Legit needs some time. All 30 minutes will do is get you off at a discount.
The $0. 95 pricing might fool 'them at the discount stores, but people looking for a legit massage know they are NOT going to get $0. 05 in change.Yes, (for your area anyway) you're a bit on the low side. I get most of my massages in Wisconsin (Milwaukee / Racine / Kenosha) where the rates are significantly lower than IL, especially if you know where to look. (My favorite legit place is $44/ hr, $60/90, and $74/2 hours, and most of girls are excellent, but it's almost an hour drive.) But I assume rent and taxes are way higher in IL so I don't know how feasible it is staying a little below the others.
On the other hand your slightly lower door pricing DOES get some of us in the door who might not make the drive to BG otherwise.

Absolutely not. To many clowns on there who do fake reviews. The funniest one I saw was someone went to Geneva spa and clearly stated the only parking was on the street. IMO (and based on my experience) they all change and finally make us happy, after certain number of visits, and, if we demonstrate some friendliness and a little attention.
