They want to know you are really you, and they want a selfie of you to prove it. You can submit it through your computer or your phone. I tried the webcam on my Apple first, that didn't work. They did post a QR code for me, so I used my burner phone with that. They go through a process where you put your face inside an oval and turn it left and right. Then you click a submit button. That part did not seem to be working for me. However, the website did eventually refresh and gave me the message:

Delete Request Completed.

Completed.

✓.

Received.

✓.

Hidden.

✓.

Approved.

✓.

Deleted.

Your photos and your selfie have been permanently deleted.

When it comes to photos and recognition, it all depends on the algorithm used. That said, I am going to guess most sites would use facial, as iris can't be used as the photos aren't big enough (or more specifically, your iris size and details aren't).

Because of that, just a black dot over your eyes may not be enough. Facial recognition works of dark and light shades, around your eyes, nose, mouth, etc. It's multiple points of your face. You really want to mess it up, you cover your nose and mouth, and it's a good chance it won't have much success (and maybe blur your eyes a bit, in case iris has gotten that good).
