I wasn't there so I don't have all the answers, but it seems to me that you could've found a different place to park. I go way out of my way to insure my safety in this hobby. When I first hit Kensington, I spent a good part of my time mapping or a place to go. My own criteria is it should be out-of-the-way, preferably a one-way street and I shouldn't be the only car on the street, I always park with ample room to back up and get out or pull forward and get out so then nobody can box me in. I learned one lesson the hard way, never park in front of a door to an apartment or home cause you just don't know when the owner is going to come out.

LOL, yes, definitely will never be parking around there again. Like I said, I've used that area before and never had I expected someone to roll up on me the way that guy did. I definitely need to go back and map out that neighborhood better in my mind, especially with all the one-ways and alleys and such.

Like I said, it's so extensive that I have used several different spots before when I'm on that stroll, depending on where the pickup happens. But if I do go back in the future I will definitely have a better plan. I have my favorite spots along other strolls I have frequented, but as time passes, foot traffic (and other traffic, gentrification, etc.) definitely shifts things and causes me to go back to ground zero when planning my activities and experiment with other spots. This one was just the scariest experience I've ever had, with an entirely uncalled-for car chase to boot. In the end, I guess its a small price to pay for the, ummm, small price we pay, if you will.

Thanks for sharing the story and it should serve as a reminder to us that this hobby is not without its risks. I wasn't there so I don't have all the answers, but it seems to me that you could've found a different place to park. I go way out of my way to insure my safety in this hobby. Well, after thinking I've experienced everything in the hobby aside from run-ins with LEO, I finally got sufficiently spooked that I think it's really time to hang it all up.

Sometime between 10 and 11 pm, the first night after a bunch of the bad weather had subsided, and K was crawling with options, I found myself with a cute strawberry blonde named Caroline (Carolyn?) south of Lehigh. I never have one specific spot to go, as the stroll is so extensive, but a couple times I have ended up in the area around Silver / Amber / Seltzer. I went there this time around and parked up, and the street was nice and quiet. As soon as we start getting ready, a white minivan pulls up alongside and starts shining a flashlight in on us. It's pretty clear that they aren't LEO, but first I think that I've been setup by Caroline. I hear the guy shout that he has my license plate, and I quickly hop to attention, start the car, and hightail it out of there.

But then, he follows me. For the next 10-15 minutes. I'm turning right, left, into alleys and side streets, rolling through stop signs, just trying to get away. Caroline is audibly pissed off at the situation too and is suggesting to go a specific way because she knows guys that will help us out. I don't want to get caught in the middle of any tussles. I just want to shake this guy. I'm just confused why a guy would want to follow me like that if he already has my plates. What else was he trying to accomplish? Eventually, he gives up, and we park far away, and my heart doesn't stop pounding for the next 30 minutes. I'm not in the mood to do anything, but Caroline is actually super sweet and she insists on making me feel better. She does, and I am super grateful that there are still some good hearts on the streets. I would definitely repeat, but considering the situation I just dealt with, I'm afraid to go back there again and really think it's time to pursue other forms of entertainment.

Anyone had run-ins with these civilian vigilante types who decide to take the law into their own hands? I've seen videos before from guys who get off on catching mongers in the act and doxing them online for all to see. Has anybody else dealt with this guy?

Yea it's Caroline. I've never had any run ins with these "vigilantes" in question but maybe some pissed off monger with nothing better to do or some kind of neighborhood watch wannabe. I've had Caroline several times in the last couple of weeks and yes she's super sweet and down to earth. Always went smoothly and uneventful but I have a specific area where I go well enough away from the bustle of K Ave.

Happy to hear despite the scare nothing came of it at the end. That kind of experience would certainly make me more cautious, consider changing strolls or semi-retirement. We all know that there are many risk in this hobby.

I've been interrupted by perturbed citizens living in marginalized neighborhood, and who could blame them? What has surprised me is ho nonplussed some of our SWs are when pedestrians walking down the middle of the street approach; "Oh no worries. We won't charge them. ".

I've had three or four experiences that has me questioning the hobby in my world and, in the end, I just make adjustments: no up front donations, cemeteries instead of alleys, no more errand by stuff, etc.

Sounds like you picked up a girl before someone else watching did and got disgruntled, trying to get you to release her, so he can snag her.
