Some tips to help anyone who unfortunately walks into one of these situations:

1) If an age is revealed like that up front it is ALWAYS Uncle. ALWAYS. No if and or maybes about it. They have a strict playbook -- they need to make sure the evidence is admissible in court and is as unambiguous as possible. They need to ensure that you acknowledged that age and continued to move forward or else they don't have a case. Digital evidence, maintaining chain of custody, and proving your intent are all the name of the game. They are trained to get you caught up in the moment, impulsively reply, and trigger your worst instincts -- do not fall for it.

Sorry that happened to him. If it's any consolation, the decoy recapping the 'deal' was purely to get more on him, and make it easier. They had enough already, as the burden is so low in NC. The couple things I keep harping on are 1. Never reference the ad you're responding to, in any way. This is critical! Don't call her by her fake name, don't reference the side of town she says she's in, or anything else that identifies the ad you viewed, or that you ever viewed it. They use these ads to actually 'convey the offer'. If they have any proof that you're responding to their offer, and agree to visit. You are already screwed, whether you show up or not. They will have enough to get a warrant for your comms to prove you viewed the ad. If you are EVER asked "Which of my ads did you see?" immediately bail by saying "I think I must have misdialed the number and gotten you by mistake. " If you've previously agreed to visit, and then something trips you up to bail, (including the old "Hey, now that you agreed to see me I have to confess that I'm actually not 26, I'm 16 - there was a typo in the ad), assume they are coming for you as they did in the Invictus sting last year. Wipe everything to the greatest extent possible. The 2nd. Point I keep making is to make no comment, just identify yourself and then say "Lawyer". Don't ask "Do I need a lawyer?" Just "lawyer". They're visiting you for a reason. Give your defense attorney a fighting chance. If you've taken those two points to heart, your attorney will argue that you called or texted by mistake, and this puts in doubt 'the offer' part of the Solicitation statute. No offer, no solicitation!

My thoughts on some of the previous posts about the underage sting. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but it's mine. As far as the ad itself, everything about it is a red flag but this post isn't about that. As soon as you hear that they are underage, you bail. Plain and simple. The only rule and flag that should matter is anyone under 18. That should be an immediate abort mission and blocking the number and erasing all evidence that you contacted the ad on all of your electronic devices. The second flag is the providers age being given without you asking about it. They are clearing setting up a paper trail of visible and clear evidence by doing this. Even after the law change I believe that sting operations have mainly targeted soliciting minors. The next flag is getting you to explicitly ask for what you want in graphic detail and agree on a price for the act. In my case I tried to use abbreviations like QV and BB like always and the officer decoded it and wrote it back to me in question form asking if I was agreeing to 15 minutes bareback vaginal sex for $60. That was the next flag that the prices were way too low for the current market. The location was a flag like I said before it was in an area and a hotel that I had never known for mongering to take place and it was not far from a WFPD training station. The last flag of course was specific instructions about parking upon arrival. "Go to the back park by this kind of vehicle. I'll meet you and then introduce you to the girl. " I hope that this is helpful for the group although I know that for 99% of you would never allow for yourself to end up like I did. 3 nights in jail, loss of job, loss of home as it was near a school, a pretrial ankle monitor for year, 36 months of probation with another 6 months of electronic monitoring with a curfew, bail, attorney and court fees, registry for 30 years and a treatment program that costs $150 a month until completion. Thanks for sharing. That's a crazy sequence of events. Obviously the age was at the crux of the sting. However, I think a lot can be learned from your experience for any type of sting. 2) If they hit you with that dreaded age text, make sure to clearly state you are not interested. Do NOT just leave the convo without a response. Make it clear as day you have no interest in anything illegal like that, and reiterate that the ad said they were 18+. Even ask if they need help in the rare case it is an actual HT type situation although it's very very rare since a trafficker likely wouldn't be as stupid to be as obvious as a LEO sting but still a possibility. But if they are trafficking they will certainly get busted and when they do and LEO reads their messages they need to see that your convo was not contributing to it.

3) If you have any doubts, make another burner number and make another inquiry. Uncle will likely tell you a completely different story. They told one guy here they were helping the girl get started. I can guarantee you they will tell another person something completely different. They just make up BS on the fly thinking your small head will be doing the thinking and you won't notice the huge holes in their stories.

4) Pause and really think about every response. Don't let the small head run the show. Imagine the transcript of your convo being read in court and how it will sound to a jury and how it will portray you. 90% of the time they will only arrest those that show up at the destination, getting 5-10 arrests is enough for them to have a news story. But the other 10% of the time, they will go after anyone that requested nude pics, sent nude pics, made explicit comments about what they wanted after learning the age. For that 10% of the time it depends on how much resources they have to trace numbers, IP addresses, etc. You see this a lot in Florida and Texas*where some local sheriff's have made it their Modus Operandi to be known as Sting Czars because they love the media attention and self aggrandizing that comes with it. Bottom line: keep your convo clean and off ramp as soon as possible, do NOT engage with these idiots.

5) These sting ads run in coordination with STG and other sites. The sites have LEO Portals that let LEO directly login, posts sting ads, and run stings. I even read one case where the LEO Portal on STG was directly citied.
