PB, I'm running a AMD Ryzen 395+ which is a similar unified memory setup to the Mac's actually. The pool of 128 GB can be configured in BIOS to be a 96/32 or 64/64 split. I found 64/64 better for holding as much context as possible for the latest models (roughly 250 k). SOTA are advancing quickly (everyone is distilling from Anthropic and OpenAI) but in short after having spent the $$ it's not worth the hardware cost at the moment when you can easily get 1 million tokens commercially for cheaper. Fine for a hobbyist I guess. I think real GPU VRAM would be superior in most cases except if trying to run models larger than you can fit in memory.

Here's my tests with your prompt.

Qwen 3. 5 35 B Q8 (37 GB).

44 tok / sec.

Qwen 3. 5 9 B Q8 (10 GB).

22 tok / sec.

Strange that the 9 B model performed worse on this prompt.

my 5090 mobile (24G VRAM on Qweb 3.5 9B was) 80 toks/s. I didn't try the 30B. don't think it will fit.
I think I will get a new Macbook instead of a desktop 5090. I can tunnel my Mac to my 5090 to run inference (but it will be limited to 24G VRAM). I was just gonna get a faster mac with ram "in case" I have asspirations to do more on my macbook.... but it's also $5000 when I checked ther actual price lmao so I don't know if I need a 5090 laptop + a $5000 mac. I did order a $499 Macbook Neo too. 20 GPUs is kind of slow (what I have now and it does 22 toks/sec which is dog slow for me. I am used to 150+/toks from online models.

I am guessing the M5 Max 40GPUS will ne 44 toks or maybe 65 which is same as 5090 mobile (but I can run larger model on the Mac since I have more RAM but it's still gonna be slow on raw power.

what's the system build? I still don't run anything for real local because SOTA models online are still best by Qwen 3.5 may be ok. I need to just see how fast it really is, if it's too slow I won't want to use it. I probably just get macbook with 48GB but I was thinking I will do more if I have highest spec but it's usually just asspirational purchase.

Only the RisingSun8 style sites provide that info. But for the ones that do, it's on the girls profiles. In the info section to the right. But a site like PPC doesn't display that information.
