Context: a provider I used to see regularly years ago owed me money. I paid her ahead of time for a session as a favor (mistake #1) because she needed some cash and I thought I could trust her, then she canceled the session at the last minute, we couldn't get another one scheduled, I asked her to just send the money back and she agreed. She made a point to remind me that she has my personal info (she has a selfie and pic of drivers license, this is when I was first a client like 3 years ago) and the way she worded it sounded like a threat. The way I see it, if she's going to be a scumbag and resort to vague threats because she doesn't want to pay back money that she owes me, I mean I'll just let that money go because it's not worth it. I guess I'm worried that she's going to be vindictive and do something anyway. If she wants to blacklist me for that, it's super childish on her part to do that but I can live with that. But what I couldn't live with is being outed to my personal life. I'm single so it's not like there's a marriage to wreck but I don't want my work finding out, and to a lesser extent I don't want my family and friends finding out. Has anyone ever had something like that happen? I set my LinkedIn visibility to private and there's almost no way to find my workplace unless you google my name and info in a very specific way. Yeah, unfortunately I gave my personal info to a few providers when I was first starting out (like 3-4 years ago), these days it's burner number only and if they want personal info, I move on.
