It's been a few days and nobody replied to your question, so I'll throw out a few unsubstantiated comments.

1) I bet that instead of a yes / no question, you really wanted a recommendation. Sorry, I can't help you with that.

3) So with that disclaimer out of the way, here's some things to consider. At least in the Detroit area, I quickly learned that name brand hotels do NOT offer short stay rates, only the Mom-and-Pop type places do. Is it the same in rural areas? I have no clue, but I'm guessing that the owner / manager of a name brand hotel (in the country) may take ANY paying customer they can get (especially when paying cash). Your best bet is to personally go to the front desk, let them see that you're a respectful looking guy, and ask them.

4) As for the Mom-and-Pop places, you need to realize that in the city, quickly cleaning and turning over short stay rooms is part of their business model to generate cash. There will be another customer wanting that room when you leave. That's not the case in the country. Personally, if I was the owner of a Mom-and-Pop place in a rural area, I'd tell the guy, "I don't care if you stay overnight, or just an hour, I still have to clean it, so it costs you the same". That said, I checked Goggle Maps (along US-23), and was surprised to see only one Mom-and-Pop between Ann Arbor and Dundee, Star Motel in Milan. I'm guessing there are more, so again, it's going to be up to you to do the legwork.

5) If you do find a short-stay rate, or day-use rate, it may be no better than a discounted overnight rate at a low-cost Red-Roof type motel.

6) Good luck. I'm guessing that you found yourself a hot "farmer's daughter", and I got to admit, I'm jeolous.
