It is true that these scammers do not need the full card number to drain the funds of the card. I had one such bad experience in my early days.

One provider spoke to me for several days and appeared legit. On the day of appointment, she gave me the approximate address and said she would give me the accurate number once I show some commitment that I am serious in meeting her. I was asked to buy eBay $100 gift card and show her ONLY the last 4 digits at the back of the card. I presumed there is no way one can hack the card with 4 digits and without scrapping off the hidden code.

So I covered all the other details except 4 digits. Boom! $98 disappeared.

Lesson remains. Never pay deposit nor share any gift card details.
