If you are paying a deposit to someone and all you have from that person are a phone number, a tryst profile, a couple of pictures, a below average hourly rate, and maybe a twitter profile with a couple of posts / pictures. Yes, very likely a scam.

If you are paying a deposit to someone with a professional website (their own paid domain), an extensive twitter history, reviews, someone who asks for screening information (references, etc.), someone who is responsive over email, and someone who just does an all around good job marketing themself (usually with rates that align with that premium image) you are likely signing yourself up for a very good time.

I agree that there are a lot of scams out there. Not 99 percent. And if you are incapable of reading the signs above to tell which ones are scams and which ones aren't, yeah, probably best not to risk it.

Add Costa Rica to this list, specifically Jaco Beach. I go there for a week every year and bang 8's, 9's and 10's every night for less than what some of the trailer trash is asking in our area. I'm actually thinking about moving there when I retire.
