The purpose of a code is either just shorthand (which is not really the use in these forums) or to hide information from people who don't know the code. Having a glossary or FAQ that explains the code makes it so anyone can translate, so why bother? Not sure what alternative to suggest because I do get the intention behind this whole thing. If I said "Tickets to the venue cost $70 and once there I spent $160"? Would that make sense to folks?

I agree. I think what causes confusion (and arguments) is that the code is not used in a consistent manner. If it were used in the way it's shown in the abbreviations it would be fine but it's not.
I've seen $$, 2 $, and $2 all used to mean 200. Does $5 mean 500? Or does it just mean 5? Or does it mean 150 and the author forgot the decimal? With the decimal, I've also seen it used to mean 50 as a tip at an AMP. Someone may write "I left the $ on the table" to mean "I left the money on the table" without specifying the amount. This then gets interpreted as "I left 100 on the table" and now people think the girl's donation is 100 when it's not.

My point was, in the original post, he typed $$ and I thought that gorgeous lady was getting $200 for her hour GFE service. It turns out he meant $500, which if he typed it out in the first place, without using "the code", I would've known that she was out of my price range.

Here's a fun thing to try. Simply type $500, this is the standard format for a specific amount of money here in America, which is where we currently are. It eliminates a lot of confusion and is not that much more work. I'm making an example of you because I'm sick and tired of this arbitrary code that a lot of dudes use on here. And I realize typos happen but take the time to read your posts to make sure they make sense. Please.

One thing to note is that in the "Abbreviations" page in the menu bar of the site, the first thing is the section on $:

$$$ $300
$$$.5 $350 (get it?)

So people are reading that when they start here, and they follow it thinking it's part of the rules / norm. That's what I did when I started.
