I can't emphasize enough how pointless calling ahead is at these places. If they know you and know your phone number. Maybe. In any other scenario, they are seeing whoever the person is right in front of them. If they have the decency to remember a guy called for whatever time, they will say "you call?" Unfortunately, there is no shortage of 'don't be this guy' types who will say that they called and snag your appointment.
