Hey man, just unsolicited advice when considering mixing carrying and mongering. I'm not at all carry opposed, do so myself in MD (and wherever reciprocal). And your position that you would never intentionally carry while mongering is best outtake. Peace, mistakes made and we learn from them. I have had mine on me (like once) forgot I had it, I just very nonchalantly kept it hid in my pile of clothes, and nobody was ever the wiser. Made a mental note that that was dumb, and tried not to repeat. I am usually in a dilemma if I am carrying, and ad hoc stop on a monger mission. You know, sometimes the urge hits. I tend to leave in the car with my valutek lifepod, but that's not that much of a deterrent. Anyway, I try to preplan to avoid mixing the carry with the dreaming.

I live in "Hoodbridge," it's called that for a reason. I carry and have carried for that reason since 2016. I'm so used to it being on my hip that I only notice when it's not there. That particular day, it was one of those days I simply forgot I still had it on me. I have never, nor would ever intentionally carry to visit a provider of any sort. Mostly because I know many people are terrified of firearms. Part of why I choose to conceal carry is to not unnecessarily scare others who might see it if I carry openly.

Moving on, while I'll be the first to admit the ROE for justifiably using a firearm in self defense, in Virginia, are smaller than the "eye of a needle. " However, under "diversity of force" defense, one doesn't have to be confronted by a person with a gun or other weapon. The person just needs to feel imminent threat of bodily arm or death by the aggressor (s). It could be difference is size, say 5-8 vs 6-2, more than one aggressor and you're alone. And until I'm undressed and dreaming the dream, and money has exchanged hands, I've committed no crime by knocking on a door (it's picking fine hairs but holds true).

Why do we carry? Like another hobbyist stated, "because the Supreme Court says we can. " More personal to me, I don't want to be a victim of violence since I have the means to defend myself or others; rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

Best to carry a good OC spray or pepper spray, stream is best, then aerosol and aim for the forehead, not the eyes. Don't use gel as you must hit the eyes directly for it to work, the other two run down the forehead into the eyes. It's easier to conceal and if it gets taken only costs $20 to replace. Also, the ROE is MUCH LOWER. I've had to pull mine out several times and use it on someone once. Usually pulling it out diffuses the situation. Best to go on YouTube's Active Self Protection and listen to what they say. If I do carry, I do what I can to avoid situations than get into them.

I don't know if this PSA will fall on deaf ears. What is one of the basic tests for justifiable use of your carry? Whether or not the person using such force is involved in a criminal act? Pretty sure that applies in VA. Dreaming is a?

Just consider the possible ups and downs to bringing your carry with you. What are the possible wins? In your mind, protecting yourself against robbery or threat? Win. I find that one pretty unlikely.

Downsides? Its a setup, thug walks in, your carry is in your pants and you're in your dream. You going to get to it? You're going to keep it on you while dreaming? You get caught at just the right time and get yours out and draw on each other, maybe a round is discharged. You think you're getting out of there unknown / unseen? Cameras are everywhere in hotels / motels. So then you fail the basic test. Even most simple. This provider feels it, sends you to car, you think she's not texting her handler, this guy had a piece? While you're back dreaming, they get your piece. Go ahead and report that, or just worry that it is used and somehow traced to you in some other activity.

Having said all that, I wholeheartedly agree that it's best not to carry when heading to dreamland. It was a stupid mistake on my part, and after hours of running errands, forgot it was on my hip. In the future, in following another hobbyist's thoughts, I'll pat myself down and make sure I'm only carrying what I'm willing to lose if robbed.
