Yes and I want to add that 1 in 2500 is the risk when exposed to an HIV positive person. Obviously if your partner does not have HIV, the chance of getting it is 0. I'll try to summarize what I've said before. Keep in mind .4% of the US population is HIV positive, while close to .1% of the Korean population is HIV positive. It is a sensitive thing to say, but it still to this day overwhelmingly gay and bi men participating in gay sex. 67% of new infections are among gay and bi men, even though they only comprise 5% of the population (keeping in mind half the population are women). One factor is how much the risk skyrockets once you receive anal sex, it becomes around 1 in 70 (estimates vary wildly but they all agree it's high). South Korea has a much lower HIV rate, even lower when excluding foreigners, even lower when excluding gay men. I'm not trying to downplay the risk in any way, just give some context why doctors tell you this since I've been told the same.

There are two things much more likely and arguably worse than HIV which I will now describe. So I was first inspired to write on STDs after interacting with two guys who described their experience. One guy said his wife discovered his hobby through his sex toys, and was a broken person afterwards. Another guy got divorced. There is something 10 times worse than HIV, and 1000 times more common. It happens every day. A man gives his wife a bacterial infection after many years of being monogamous. Divorce happens. She takes half, he loses the house, says farewell to his kids, pays alimony and child support, and eats instant ramen alone. No good woman will touch him again. HIV for life is extremely mild compared to that.

So I endeavored to help such people by at least not getting caught through bacterial stds or genital warts (see Gardasil 9). In the broken wife case, it wasn't so much that he was cheating.
