I can only speak on dealing with other bookers. But I have been transferred numbers a few times. The secure way to handle this is to confirm with the first number, that the second new number is legit. Normally, the first number tells me ahead of time this will happen, so no surprise. No problems. So transferring numbers does happen.

I have heard it common to bring I'd first time to verify. I don't like the idea, but it makes sense for first timers. I won't go into details but to say some guys ruined it for others. They need to screen out people who didn't pay or caused other problems, trying to come in pretending to be a new customer again. I am not endorsing this practice or vouching for anyone, just saying this is not uncommon and to keep a good thing going.
