Yeah, I got this exact email about 3 years ago. I ended up sending them a picture of my driver's license with paper over the number; I figured the rest of the information was publicly available, and I've moved since I sent them the photo, so the address is out of date. From what I remember, I got access back in less than a day. I think they do this to discourage scammers more than do a detailed background check. I've had background checks done, and they take longer than an hour or two to verify. After all, they do want their paying customers to keep paying.
