    STD Testing

With some of the bare / STD talk in recent posts, where do you guys go for testing? I looked quick at one of the major labs in CT and it was something like $250 which seemed kind of steep. (my insurance isn't great and doubtful it would cover any of that) Though I also heard you can get it done for free at some clinic (s) in downtown Hartford?

Great guides Wally. How do I get the "pill combination of Cefixime, Doxycycline monohydrate, Metronidazole"?

Docs usually prescribe you whatever they choose. Or do you directly tell them I want a prescription for these three antibiotics?

The seropositivity to HSV-1 in the US population is around 70%. Better to give an exact # than adjectives like 'most'.

I get tested periodically, so IK that I am negative for HSV-2, and all my practices are aimed at keeping it that way. It starts w / who I see, and then what I do when I see them. Simple. I don't want to get into any debates, but you should look for yourself at the CDC statistics on seropositivity to HSV-2 by age and race.

If you are active in any of the activities covered on this site, and you have a SO who you actively have a physical relationship with, you really better know everything there is to know, and have a lot of self-control. Passing something / anything to the SO is the fastest road to divorce (no comment about morality).
It's also important to note that, in my experience, STD panels usually don't include HSV testing. You need to specifically ask for it.

Just like some people don't like pre-shower while I always insist on showering, is so the girls can take a visual check on my D and feel slightly at ease that I don't have anything weird growing.
Almost everyone here has oral herpes. Most people are exposed as children, causing cold sores. Any time you share utensils or kiss your mom. Not a big deal. Good luck enjoying kgirls without any kissing.

While HSV-1 and HSV-2 can cross-infect, they strongly prefer their region (oral herpes the mouth, genital herpes the genitals). Most people are protected from HSV-1 infections because they already have it and are now asymptomatic. The most frequent period of HSV-1 infection is before the age of 5. It is technically an STD but in practice does not act like it.

If you have HSV-1 like most people, you technically have a life-long STD. But you are still going to kiss people right?

Certainly if you have an outbreak of cold sores (HXV-1) or a flare up (HSV-2), I would refrain from kissing or sex. That is the highest risk period by far. It took me 10 years on this hobby to get genital herpes so if you have a problem with herpes you better find another hobby soon.

It bears saying again that 90% of people with genital herpes do not know they have it. Believe what you want if it helps you feel better.

One in six USA adults have genital herpes (HSV-2). 90% of people who have genital herpes do not know they have it. It is the one STD you are going to get eventually even if you are always using a condom. It took me years to get it, even with 100% cfs I got it on my scrotum. It is an unfortunate part of life but something a lot of people have. For most people it gets mild after the initial outbreak. It was bad the first year only, now asymptomatic. Even if you are not religious, you will pray for mild symptoms soon.

It is a common lifelong virus. Your body kills most of it off, then the rest hides for a year until your antibodies disappear before coming back, starting the process again. Since I already have genital herpes same as 45 million other US adults, there is nothing for me to worry about anymore.

With that in mind, why do we do do this hobby? I think this article touches on some examples. Bonus points if you recognize the girl.

Yeah. But even after years in this hobby (decades really) and being sexually free outside the hobby, I've still never gotten HSV-1. They say it's not possible to be immune, but I often wonder if I am proof they are wrong LOL.

Also thankfully, now that Hep-C cure has been found, there are only 3 main ones left that aren't curable. HIV has PrEP, but isn't curable once you get it. And then there are the two Herpes strains, which I consider to be acceptable risks because even though it is possible to get it with no sores, the odds are FAR lower of spreading between breakouts.

But even the curable ones have terrible long term effects if you don't test, find them, and then cure them.

Tested positive for Chlamydia. I get tested for everything every few months. Even if it weren't against the rules, I still wouldn't try to speculate on who gave it to me because I have seen a few since my last test.

Only posting this as a reminder to please get tested periodically. I have no symptoms. It's curable, but only if you know about it.
That sucks. I get tested 3-4 times a year. I know talking with some peeps in LA / SJ they get tested more often. If you dabble in this hobby you need to get checked out. I was lazy and just went into an urgent care after a trip from a SJ and came back clean (knock on wood).

For me, it was azithromycin, just 1 dose of 1000 mg, just got to wait like 7 days.
