Saw the new Shangri La after its reopening. The place is renovated, everything looks new and somewhat better decorwise than before with a big change to the waiting room. There is no longer a room divider, so anyone that has to wait their turn must either sit in the open or wait outside. Theres a new neon sign that says MASSAGE directly visible from outside the glass door with the original logo halfway scratched off. Not discrete at all as anyone who is leaving the childcare looking business across the hall would probably love seeing that glowing massage sign everytime they drop off or pick up their kid. The back 2 rooms were always "connected" by a small thin window that was way up towards the ceiling. Old shangri la always covered that connecting window up with a piece of foamy insulation since they were both rooms where clients were received. That window is unobstructed now, so I guess its possible for someone to stand on something or stick their phone up there from the other room and peek in on your massage now, which fucked with my comfortability once I noticed it.

2 new people working there when I visited. No sign of Lulu who seemed to be there every day before the sudden closure and renovation. Hourly rate has not changed, 70, I gave 80 but I did notice a bit late that they did not give me the change back. This was a first for the establishment so I was somewhat concerned they were going to pretend that 10 $ change just didn't exist when the time came for the tip. The one who took me in looked older and prettier to me, didn't get her name. Asked for hard on the massage. It was soft and felt very basic skillwise so I left disappointed on that front. Honestly it was so good I was sometimes tempted to go to old shangri la just for the massage itself.

After the massage but before leaving the masseuse asked for a tip, which was typical practice for this place. This was my first time seeing her so I offered my usual amount for old shangri la which used to be on the upper end of tips (judging from old shangri la girls' reactions) and used to afford loose garments and no complaints, but today she was disappointed by the initial offer and tried to upcharge me, asking for 100. Thanks Obama. I convinced her that my initial offer was all I had and we continued. Tried to lose her top during this time and she attempted another upcharge again even though I previously said I didn't have anymore so I stayed with it on. Thanks Biden. Roaming was allowed, and she did have a nice chest. This part of the experience mightve been ok but the extra negotiating killed the vibe for me. This part was disappointing as well.

Final thoughts: as someone who visited commonly enough before the renovation, new shangri la left MUCH to be desired and I don't think its really worth visiting anymore. Decor was nice but was missing key privacy features. Massage was mediocre. Negotiations were WAY more expensive than the trend set by old shangri la. Post massage was meh. The only thing I enjoyed was getting out of there.

That said, I saw people discussing Lulu might be the new owner now. If anyone sees lulu on a visit do let me know. Honestly if there is any change at all to the problems I mentioned or any fresh perspectives at new shangri la please do let me know about it as old shangri la used to be one of my favorites.

TL; DR version, the owner of Shangri-la and Capella is being investigated because of another spa, so they closed all the spas that operate under their name. The Ann Arbor locations weren't busted, they have spas in at least Michigan and New York from what I remember her telling me in the past.
