I think you're missing the point here. He never once said that he'd die, but that having any STD would fuck up his life. And he's not wrong.

What if he's got godawful medical insurance (or none whatsoever)? What if he's married or in a committed relationship? What if he's simply prioritizing his health & well-being? There's a plethora of reasons why he's not down for BBFS, and that's his choice. Now personally, I have gone raw several times and recognize the risks involved.
