I thought this was a huge red flag from someone I'd seen a number of times for a few years, and left rather than drop my money on the floor of a hotel. I got the sense that she was leaving the business and ripping off her customers as a parting gift.

Did anyone else get this request, and actually get to see her? I hate to think that she would pull this kind of scam, but it seemed so off that there was no way I was going through with it.

Exactly! I just walk into hotels like I have a room there. I dress in sweats and clothes that seem like I am going back to my room. Even had occasions where the cleaners are on the same floor as the provider. Never make eye contact with the front desk.
