If you didn't have 3 posts I would accept this report but still be shocked by it. As I have already noted and linked, it was signed into law by Governor Cooper. Unless I am missing something (and I am not), it was signed into law AS PRESENTED to Governor Cooper. There was no veto and subsequent override. If you have any evidence Governor Cooper opposed this bill but signed into law regardless of his opposition, please link. Thanks.

Without saying anything that will identify myself, my work has me interfacing with the legislature and State exec administration. This was a Republican bill. It was named with its tagline for good reason. It's uncomfortable to oppose such initiatives, as you would imagine. The State executive tried to kill this many times. Cooper has reserved his futile veto only in the cases where it was demonstrably important to his side to use it, and once where it was important for timing purposes. They've all been quickly overridden. In this case there was no demonstrable benefit to doing so. I had this explained to me personally by a top aide.

Saw all the new stuff about law being passed to complicate things. I still don't understand the commotion. I still don't want to be caught with a misdemeanor or either ya'll.

So regardless if is a felony making it worse obviously or a misdemeanor we suppose to play safe with our brain. Section 4 a addresses the change in solicitation charges, and section 4 b states Dec 1 2024 as effective date. Note there will be no prayer for judgement allowed in first time offenses.
