I lived in OC for a bit when I was a teenager and still have friends there, so I check in on this board and post reviews about my experiences when I am there. But I'm curious about some history in the area. For the older mongers, how did you guys find out about spots in OC before this board existed and how did you know what to pay?

Like some other people have mentioned, in the early days you were at the mercy of classified paper ads and trying local massage parlors until you found one that had service and that you liked. There were early advertising sites like Thatmall, City-Source, and CV. TER was the first prominent review board, but there were local ones like Desperado's Blue Board, the two "Trooth" boards, which eventually morphed into HX.

Before those review boards appeared or even before you knew to try the online advertising boards, the whole dynamic was scam city. Orange county was all about cash and dash, no real services, and scam phone banks for "escorts. " There was a whole thing where the cops were ok with these agencies existing and scamming people. So, without boards a lot of people went through the experience I did where they got scammed out of money for basically nothing the first time they tried to see someone. Once you hit '99 the dynamic got better with board advice.

There was a period in the late 90's where there were some really nice massage parlors in the Costa Mesa / South Coast Plaza area. My mongering history goes back to the early 90's when I started my career and moved to this area. In those days there was no internet. Finding an AMP consisted of looking up "massage" in the yellow pages of your local phone book. I am a retired scientist and have used the scientific method in all aspects of life. This includes sex with prostitutes. Unfortunately, so many "scholarly" reports on this subject are written through a highly biased lens and with a biased agenda. This is in response to post 36576 In the MP thread by HoDough, the gonorrhea scare. This is called NGU, non-gonococcal urethritis. It's any infection in the urinary tract that is not the clap.
