Used to live right off that line at what was known as "the jive a** el stop" at ashland and jarvis. The red line has been a mess since the 80's and remains such to this day. I have city awarness and chops as they say these days since I recently moved back in, however no nights absolutely none would I ride. I don't recommend an evening ride on the red line at all. If you're from out of town you should look up Chicago red line crime, there's a ton of reports of stabbings, robberies etc etc etc. Especially at night. I have personally never taken the red line so I'm just going off what I see in local reports and word of mouth from folks I know. All the best apartments and spas are in or close to Chinatown. Lincoln park and it's immediate surrounding area is a dry zone from what I can think of off top.
