Your post says "late night," what time you talking here? The train lines run much less frequently, later in the evening. That coupled with the temp being in the single digits in the late evening doesn't sound conducive to a "good experience. ".

Not directing you away from Chinatown but considering you are taking public transportation and walking in the "late evening", it's best to know your options, be smart and be safe.

Avoid the dead, I mean Red Line, late at night. Just an overall tip for any visitor.
