Most scam and spam calls are directed to voicemail by all phone carriers, no matter who you're calling. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Boost, etc have diligently tried to block scam and spam calls. Even if you try to call your mother from a number that has been used for spam, you're probably going to be directed to voicemail. Try leaving a message saying that you are not a scammer or spammer and they'll probably call you back.
