I think they don't. Its best to just text message them on a cel phone. They usually reply pretty quick.

Most providers will give reference if you ask nicely. I haven't had a org that did provide it when I asked. Yeah selfie or work info I feel is quite normal to be asked for for the first time verification. I feel most ask for two or three ref so might be hard with just one.
