Posts: 510No, I knew the lady from the Motorola Chinese spy case. She was stubborn, and went to jail for several years.

And when you are out, you can't get a nice job anymore.
She was certainly guilty as hell, and stupid to boot. There are many easier ways to steal stuff than walk out at midnight with it in a box.
But she was a nice girl (good at her job, too). Got divorced, lost her condo, living hand to mouth until jail. She surely paid a heavy price.
Up to you.

Posts: 204If you have that much to lose, don't put yourself in that position. If you're asking me personally, I would tell the Feds to go fuck their moms. If they had a way to charge you with trafficking at that point, they wouldn't be asking you to rat.

Posts: 1087They use what I call soft coercion to get people to talk. Yes, they can't force people to talk and you always have the right to remain silent. But there you are, suddenly swooped up by Feds, put in a interview room, peppered with questions, while they throw around terms like sex trafficking and felony. You're a white collar professional, maybe never even pulled over for speeding let alone taken in for questioning, you have a job with a morality clause or a job that depends on a security clearance that can be easily revoked. By the time the agent enters the interview room he probably knows everything about you that can be gleaned from the net and databases. "You're a good guy. I'm sure you didn't know those girls were being trafficked. I'd hate for this thing to ruin your life too. Why don't you just help us out and we'll see what we can do to help you?" It is not about being weak or strong, smart or stupid. Everyone has weaknesses, everyone has leverage points, and no one wants to go to jail or have their lives upended. The trick is to be able take all the information you have on someone, figure out those points, and then play them to get them to cooperate. Given a choice between talking and maybe walking away from a bad situation clean or taking the 5th and risk having your life and career upended and perhaps ruined; what do you choose? Especially if you realize the Feds are already all over the operation and it is going down sooner or later?

Posts: 204I think you've been watching too many TV shows. Cops, whether federal or local, cannot make you admit guilt or snitch on anyone else unless you are weak and / or stupid. If you keep your mouth shut, it's like cryptonite to them. You are assuming that there is some big conspiracy at play here and that is very likely not the case.

But Feds almost always get something on you. Then it's time to deal.

Posts: 1087We don't know what they had on the very first guy who traded his information on the brothels to the Feds. It is fully possible the trade was part of a deal arranged by the guy's attorney. At this point, we just don't know.

I agree the guys they snatched up after leaving the brothel locations shouldn't have talked since really other than being at the location the Feds had absolutely nothing on them. But the Feds know all the soft coercion tactics to pressure people to talk and that is probably what they did.

Posts: 204That is the bad advice. Sorry. You never ever EVER talk to the police. Full stop. What you're advising is exactly what the cops will tell you is the only way to save yourself. This is a lie. Oldest trick in the book. It's a misdemeanor charge and the worst they can do is jam you up for a couple hours. Don't ever rat yourself, or anyone else out.

Posts: 1087This is why running an agency or brothel is always going to be risky. Some of the ladies on social media are going on about how foolish texting their menu to clients was but it wasn't the menu texts that got them busted. Someone squealed. These guys were trying to do things to keep their operation safe such as screening new clients with real world information and asking for references. Evidently, their methods were working and it was a very successful business. Then some guy gets jammed up and starts talking. Then they put surveillance in place and wind up sweeping up some of the clients and at least 20 of those clients squealed instead of staying quiet. All they had these guys on was that they had left apartments where suspected prostitution was taking place. The guys could have simple said, "sorry I have nothing to say" and walked or if things were too intense "I refuse to answer any questions without legal representation" or "5th fuckers" even. I didn't see in the affidavit how many guys in total they stopped and questioned, maybe a few did decline to answer questions but at least 20 squealed and squealed. So as a pimp, agency manager, or brothel owner you can do everything you can to keep your operation safe and still get royally fucked over by your own customers looking to save their own asses.
