Pretty much any mom and pop on Woodward south of 8 mile, anything on 8 mile, Bali is dumpy, suez is ok, JZ is my fave but it's near Gratiot. Fairly clean decent beds shower and towels and good porn. Basically most any mom and pop in less than upscale areas. In my experience they’re all $40-$50 for two or three hours

Flamingo Motel in Fraser at 14 and Groesbeck isn't too far from Van Dyke. Been a long time since I've been there, but was great for short stays back in the day.

There are several short term stay notels on Groesbeck between Utica and Masonic including the Flamingo Motel. I've used the Flamingo Motel, but it is pretty run down. Not sure how much you really like this coworker. You could try the Garden Inn across the street from Flamingo. It's nicer, but also twice the cost of Flamingo. Otherwise, try the other notels down the road from Garden Inn and Flamingo. If those don't work out, then you can always try the Flamingo in a pinch.

Does anyone have a current recommendation for a hotel that offers short stay? I've stayed a few times a t Red Roof, but they can be wishy / washy when it comes to checking in before 3. I have a coworker I want to meet up with but we may only have a few hours. I'm thinking 10 mile on north, Telegraph on west, Van dyke on East, and maybe downriver.

That's a huge area. You're over-thinking things, it's not that big of a deal. Getting a room for a co-worker is not a whole lot different than a hooker. Either way, you want to be confident, knowledgeable, and in-charge.

Here's what I did several years ago when I was in your shoes:

Take a couple free hours and go personally (easier to understand foreign accents in person than over the phone) to several nearby MOM AND POP motels (not a name brand) within 5 or 10 miles and say:

1) Hi, what are your short-stay rates?

2) Are there any specific days or hours for that, or is it anytime?

3) Thank you, I'm gathering information beforehand. I'll be back.

Now you have a list of nearby short-stays and their rates (usually 3-hours). When you go back to one of them with a date:

1) Have your driver's license and the correct CASH already in your hand so you're not fumbling with your wallet (they'll add an extra 2-5 dollars for a key deposit).

2) Say, "Hi, I'd like a 3-hour Short-Stay please", and start to fill out the registration card (if all the Short-Stay rooms are in use, you already have a Plan B on your list).

3) Take the key, and say, "Thank you, I'll be back before _ o'clock".

4) Unlock the room door, step inside first and turn on the light, hold the door open for your date, and then lock both locks and close the curtains. Give your date a big hug, and take it from there.

5) When done, be a gentleman and return the key to the office. If you plan to be a regular, consider letting them keep the key deposit.

Well this post went longer than I thought, but it's really that easy. "Most" short-stay rooms are the same. It seems like your biggest concern is a place somewhere close.

Small world story: Karmen is from the UP and her pops used to own a few chain sandwich shops in her hometown / my college town. I went there (Walkers Speakeasy) about a year or so ago on like a Friday or Saturday night. All the present females were complete hogs. Most were with dudes; the few seemingly single or available ones were being ogled and hit on by an endless supply of creepers. I wished I could have submitted a bill for wasting 2 hours of my life. I only stayed that long because I had driven a bit to get there.
