In my hometown, there were some cheaper motels that would let you book a "short stay" of 3 hours, just perfect for a get together. I have not found any in Raleigh. Do they exist?

If I go for a cheapie like Days Inn or Red Roof, they seem to be about $80 for an overnight. Can I pay cash at the desk and just leave the key in the room when I leave? How about booking online with a pre loaded card and check in / check out with an app?

I haven't checked day use in a while but last I checked it wasn't a huge discount. There was a red roof of Chapel Hill blvd that used to take cash with an I'd but I'm not sure if they still do. Beyond that the only ones likely to take cash are going to be motels in not so great areas that are still going to want an I'd. In this day and age you're not likely to get around showing a picutre I'd of yourself. My advice is that even if you're just getting the room for an outcall is to just get it for the night. As far as where to get a room, I prefer the ones near the airport / RTP area. Often they're not super expensive and most people staying there aren't residents or likely to not mind their business. Your other option that may or may not be cheaper is to check airbnb for single room rentals. I've done this for an outcall in another city when I didn't want to use my hotel room.

To hopefully calm the concern, most hotels allow you to just leave the key in the room and go. As long as you're out by the time housekeeping shows up you're fine.

Personally, unless I'm out of town and already have a room, I prefer incall. In my experience most outcalls providers aren't really worth the extra you're paying for a room and oddly enough some set standards about what hotels they'll go to.

The last time I saw her was 2 months ago and she was at a lower to mid level hotel so can't comment on her new location.
