This strategy works in nice areas. In more seedy areas, there are a lot of bad things that can happen when people pay cash for hotel rooms, so some lower level places will not accept cash (and post a sign to that effect).

I've had some of the hotel front desk clearks not even know what dayuse.com is or understand the reservation, so it's good to call before you head there to make sure they have a room, and have some idea what is going on.

By that same token, if you get the room in the afternoon, say from 2 pm to 6 pm, or a similar time, I think they probably forget about you and could probably stay longer, or even overnight. I haven't tried this before, but did leave an hour late and never heard from anyone.

Yeah, basically. Example: I've used 2 places near the Battery recently. One lists room availability from 10:00-2:00. The other from 10:00-5:00, and priced at $119 and $124. When you reserve, they ask when you plan to arrive, within 1 hour increments. It's not really a confirmed reservation, as all payment arrangements are made directly with the hotel when you arrive. Last week I said I'd be there between 10-11. I cancelled at 9:45. No issues.
